Tips for pick a pearl?

I have wanted a silver/blue pearl for the longest time. When we were there in May, I finally got one. It was a big one too-8mm!

I just tried to go for the nastiest looking oyster I could find.

We followed everyone's advice and picked the hairest/ugliest oyster we could find. My daughter got two pinkish tinged twins, a sliver/blue pearl, and a yellowished tinged pearl. She was extremely lucky!!

I chose a really hairy looking oyster and got a 7.5 mm oyster. My mom chose this small oyster and got two pearls! Twins!!

We do this every trip. Everyone in our family picks out one - so five total, each trip. The really stunning ones (or the twins we get) I have set, or made into earrings for me and my girls. I have some silver ones, blue one, a black-ish one, and a stunning HUGE champagne gold one. I think the biggest one I ever got was 9mm and was from the downtown disney location. DH bought me a beautiful white gold setting and I wear it almost every day. The ones we don't have made in to something, we are saving for our girls. We are going to have bracelets made for them when they are olders from all the loose pearls we have. We have quite a collection now.

When picking, we tell the girls to go with their gut, and whatever one catches their eye first, they should go with that one.

Try to avoid the place in Downtown Disney. If you do a search here on the boards you will see that people have had issues with them and their prices are far, far higher than at the Epcot. I'm one of those who had a truly awful experience with them and will gladly tell people just how bad they were! If fact I wish Disney would just revoke their lease....

There's a huges couple hundred page thread on this. The main thing people agree on is the larger and uglier the oyster the more likely the pearl will be big. I followed the advice in that thread and got a 7mm pearl. I just love mine. It's my favorite souvineer from our trip. I can't wait to do it again. I bought a simple necklace setting for around $10 which was well worth it because where else are you going to get someone to set it for you? I didn't buy a chain there. I think a simple one was around $10 or $15. I waited until I got home and got one at Walmart. It ended up costing me the same so I might as well have bought it at Disney.

THIS is the huge pick-a-pearl thread. It has a post with pictures showing what settings were available and the prices of them from last year, also. HTH :goodvibes

Their prices are higher because they sell real gold and silver. Epcot does not. We got mine several years ago and they were so nice. We chatted for an hour or so. What kind of issues have people had?

I've never done this but after reading this thread I am for sure going to be doing this on our next trip!

I've had my pieces from Epcot for years with not a bit of trouble and I do believe the silver is real. The people are very very rude at PF and the issues I had with them were unreal. If you really want to know, send me a PM and I will fill you in.

I've had my epcot pieces for years without issues either. I'm just saying pf is more like a jewelry store than epcot is. We've only bought from the dtd location once.

I read somewhere, I dont know where, that most of the stuff in epcot is plated whereas dtd is solid. I'll have to find that. But not that it makes a difference, we've spent hundreds in epcot on pearls! Lol I love my pieces from there!

I just did this the other day and it was super fun. I picked a large ugly one and got a beautiful white 8mm pearl. Between the oyster and setting it cost $32. I can't wait to wear it.

I got mine at DTD as well. They are also the same place that has location in each water park. Mine was beautiful! I couldn't have selected a better one. I would like to know the issues others have had too?

From what I have gathered reading another thread, is recently the employees have been rude and only want to show the most expensive settings. It seems those who went a while ago loved their experience. Since the other stores are run by the same company The Pearl Factory (not the one in Epcot), I wonder if there was a change in management.

This is now on my October bucket list! Where in Japan can I find this? What are the Cinderella coach necklaces - where are they? Thanks!!

In Japan it is in te large M department store.
Most coach necklaces are bought offline and need to be coated with clear nailpolish or something so they will not tarnish.
Recently at picking a pearl in Japan they have gotten the same version but a better quality of the cindy coach cage.
