My extended family & I have stayed at the Institute several times (2 BR Townhouse) and have been waiting for it to re-open as Saratoga Springs ... we'd like to stay there in June 2005 & need 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms ... I know that I can still "rent" a room, but now that it's a DVC resort, are there other ways to get a room? I've heard something about "renting other people's points" ... would appreciate any ideas and insights into cost at that time of year which is regular season ... thanks much as I am "clueless in South Dakota"

Yeah go on the rent trade board. It requires alot of trust to do this so make sure it is an honorable person. There are many things you have to consider before doing this escpecially that it isn't as easy as a cash ressie to cancel. BUT you say aloi of $$. The points usually rent for about $10 per point. I would also call disney and see if you can get a cash price. Or maybe see if there is a dsicount to stay with the an annual pass. You would just need one to get the discount. I am new to this too. So start on the trade/rent board and take it from there. You will get more advice from the expereince DVCr's over there. I hope I helped :)

First thing would be so see how many points you need. Type in the points calculator the points required for a two bed for however long you are going to stay.

For example June 5th - 12th for one week at SSR requires 288 points for a 2 bed. That would be $2880 to rent points ( approx depending on whether you get $10 a point).

To pay cash the same date costs $4487 for 7 nights including 11.5% room tax. Now this year the discount with annual passes for deluxe is $85 a night so if that is the same sort of discount ( and its available as the discounts are not guaranteed ) then you would deduct $595.

That is still $3892 for the week against $2880 for renting points.

Hope this helps...there is a big Q and A on renting points as there are a number of situations to be aware of.

You know I just thought of something add up the amount of times you go to Disney and times that by what you spend for accomodations and then figure out what it would be to actually buy DVC in the amount of points you would need, you may want to buy :) Like if you go ever other year that you could buy 150 pts and borrow/bank to get your 2br everyother year factor in the maintanence fees/dues and you may be better buying...just a thought :)
