She will be 4 1/2 when we go to DW, and she is sensitvie to loud noises. SHe does not have a diagnosed issue, just dosen't like them.
(Dosen't even like to be in the bathroom when you flush, etc. )

I hate for us to miss out on things, has anyone had this issue?

I though about bringing earmuffs she could put on (I know she wouldn't like plugs).

My DD is the same way. We bought her a pair of hunting ear protectors at Walmart. They look like the old headphones for the stereos when I was a kid. We take them to WDW every time we go so she can wear them during the fireworks and any other time she wants to.

Earmuff-style earplugs are excellent. I like http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/aosaseearmuf.html for my DD. She wears them whenever she feels the need. Always during fireworks. Usually during parades. She likes them on a lot of rides and crowded queues too.

Even with them we can't watch FotLK, but she does pretty well with most things. I do find that at 3.5 I need to offer them frequently. She forgets that they're an option sometimes.

Okay, so, first, bring along earplugs or ear muffins:lmao: as my dd calls them :-).

Second, bring post it notes to cover the automatic sensors in the bathroom. Cover the sensor until she leaves, then take it off once she's out.

Third, plan a dinner or inside shopping trip during the fireworks.

That said, my dd who does have SID (sensory integration disorder) had NO problems at Disney, except for the fireworks. Mickey magic works wonders on her. I just wish that we could write-off our trips as "therapy" on our Tax returns for Medical expense. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks for the tips!
I just know she'll love some of the disney magic, especially if she dosen't have to hold her ears the whole time!

Just to let you know we did Mickey's Philermagic this morning and my dd, who is quite noise sensitive too, found it very loud. Definitly an ear plug show. It was very very cool though! :thumbsup2

DD is 6, was 5 on our trip, also noise sensitive, Philharmagic was miserable, It's tough to be a bug disasterous! She could handle the fireworks at MK, but Epcot was a disaster. She LOVED Soarin'!

My 7 year old is fine with everything except fireworks/illuminations. I'm going to try ear things for him next time! Usually we skip the Epcot ones. We tried Wishes and it was not a great experience. I have heard you can watch it from the TTC boat dock.

i like this site and will be buying a pair of these for our trip. we were at least 15-20 blocks away from the fireworks for 4th of July and she wanted to sit in the car, kept saying it was too loud. same thing for little go kart races she used to not have a problem and this year she didn't want to stay said it was loud.

i keep saying that i am going to make an appointment with a specialist, but after your response and know knowing that there is a diagnosis, i WILL be making an appointment tomorrow.

I plan on bringing a few boxes of earplugs with me too. DS5 and DS11 hate loud noises(unless they're the ones making it! :goodvibes ) My 5y.o actually likes the ear plugs I buy squishy purple ones, they stick out of his ears but he doesn't mind. I actually use them to sleep and they are comfortable. Why not have your daughter try some at home? I know my son will try many more rides just because he has those earplugs! And for fireworks they are a must(even for me! :thumbsup2 )

Where do you find the squishy purple ear plugs? I think that this would work well for DS4. Thank you! :)

My DD is the same age and also very noise sensitive. She doesn't mind ear plugs though so I have packed a whole bunch!

One other thing you can do to try and prepare her is to look at the attractions on Youtube beforehand. I am leaving in 3 days and for the last few months we have been going to youtube.com and looking up the attractions and there are any number of people who have posted their home movies of everything. When we started there were a lot of no's and anxieties, but now she is ready for splash mountian! I have found for her that kind of preparation is priceless.

Good Luck!

The squishy type ear plugs didn't work very well for my 4 1/2 year old DD. She constantly had a death grip on her ears thinking that they might fall out. This trip I'm going to try the ear muff type for her and definitely the post its in the bathroom. Ahhh, the things I learn here!

I buy the squishy earplugs a few places. Just bought a pack today at Wegmans, have bought them at CVS. They come in different colors depending on manufacturer and noise reduction, just try to find noise reduction of 29-32 decibels.

I would go with fuzzy/furry ear muffs! November won't be really cold, but it won't be so hot that she's sweat with 'em on. You can get her pink fuzzy ones if she is a girly girl, etc.
