Tips for newly potty trained kid

We're going to DL this week, and DD2-almost-3 is in the final stages of potty training. We've done normal errands outside the house, but being away from home all day is a different story! I know about the little kid toilets in the baby centers and am planning on use them as much as possible. I'm also planning on taking her to the bathroom before we get in any long lines, before parades, etc and we'll have a change of clothes for her in case an accident happens. Does anyone else have any other tips?

We carried a pull-up in our backpack for awhile in case we got stuck on a ride or something, so we’d have something to slide on her and keep her from having to have an accident if we couldn’t get to a bathroom (which we thought would be traumatic for her; she really never had accidents). She never used it, but I’d read the tip somewhere and it saved us from being stressed a few times to know it was an option.

We didn’t use pull-ups otherwise, except for overnight.

Otherwise, if you know about the little potties and go frequently, that’s about all there is to do!

Gerber makes thicker training undies, and training undies with plastic/rubber covers on them. That's what we used in the last moments of "last second potty warning" stage.

Bring post-its to cover auto-flush on big potties.

You can find a foldable potty seat at most baby sections... It just sits on the top of a big potty, so kiddo doesn't feel like they are going to fall in.

Lots of wipes with alcohol for hand washing--at least with us, he would touch every possible surface, and getting a good hand washing was nearly impossible with the automatic water faucets.

We carried a few pull-ups with us too, and a change of clothes. We didn't have any accidents but we were in the potties a lot! The bathroom over by IASW is fairly quiet compared to the others (at least in my experience) if you can't get to a baby center and you're on that side of the park. Good luck!!

All I have to say is, good luck!! Between my long potty trained 7/5 yo, and non potty trained 2yo and 3 month old, we are in the bathrooms at DL A LOT. I don't know what it is about disneyland that makes my kids have to go to the bathroom but it is constant and always when we're at the front of a line. haha! Def bring a change of clothes. I know you don't want to regress but I would also say try not to let it dictate your whole trip...we usually go at the end of october and I potty trained twice after the trip purposely, because it can be hard and stressful! I mean, just being at Costco with a newly potty trained kid is stressful!

We went to Disney about a month or less after youngest was potty trained. I didn't use pullups to potty train but put him in pullups for vacation. He never did have any accidents and didn't regress at all but it was nice to know we were covered "just in case".

I think this is a really good idea. I carried pull-ups for a while too just in case but never needed them.

I did go once with a friend whose twin girls were recently potty trained. We got stuck in a logjam on pirates and it took FOREVER to get off the ride. That is a long ride anyway plus the time waiting in line. Anyway, one of her girls tried so hard but couldn’t hold it. She peed all over herself, the boat and mom too. Mom had brought changes of clothes for the girls but not herself so she was stuck wearing wet pee-per clothes for the rest of the day. So I suggest a change of clothes for you too!

When we needed reassurance, we pulled a pull up over our girls panties. Because they were wearing panties they weren't tempted to go and we didnt regress the training. If for some chance they went, it was only the undies that got destroyed. The rest of the outfit survived.

Smart!

We found that potty scheduling changed, sometimes dramatically, at DLR. Being outdoors all day and being excited, plus all the extra food and water, just meant we had to be extra aware about potty breaks, especially if we had to factor in the time for waiting in a line for a stall.

I carried large diapers with my "just in case" when we went right after my youngest was potty trained. She REFUSED to use/need them because she was a big girl. She didn't have one accident. We don't know when it happened because we didn't notice until the last night of our trip but she became night trained on that trip too. After that trip she never needed pull ups at night either.

Took us 4 days to ride jungle cruise one trip bc my son had to go NOW just at the same spot in line. Sigh.

I was bigger then, and coming back through the line to meet up with his dad wasn’t going to happen. Finally the 4th day a miracle occurred and he didn’t have to go and we rode the ride.

Agree about the post its for the sensor on the toilets if you use a regular bathroom and not the baby center bathroom. The auto flush toilets used to terrify my son! They are loud. We would count down together to flush and he would cover his ears.

A trick is to drape a piece of toilet paper over the sensor. My girls hated "magic toilets" , as they were called in our house, initially too. I would forwarn them it was a magic tiolet but put the toilet paper over the sensor.

Just wanted to come back and express my thanks to everyone who gave advice! We used several of the tips and had a great trip without any accidents (!!!!) in the park (we're not counting the dinner at IHOP where she hid under the table to poop ). Apparently that Disney magic gave her the extra little boost she needed!
