Tips for handicapped vacation

One week before our DL trip, I fractured my ankle in 3 places. Yikes! We still want to try to go, but have some questions. Has anyone rented a motorized scooter? Where and for how much? Do they deliver to your hotel? We are currently booked at the Anaheim Hilton. Would a DL hotel be easier, and if so, which one? I am not great on crutches and the leg can take no weight at all, so any info anyone may have about recommendations for handicap travel would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

That's where I've rented from, when we go for a week in July. They will drop off and pick up at your hotel. It will cost us roughly $30/day with cancellation insurance and damage/theft insurance. Fill in the rental or information section and they get back to you right away, by e-mail.

Also, check with your hotel about accommodating your scooter. I mistakenly assumed any hotel right close to Disneyland would be handicapped accessible - not so. You might want to consider requesting a room with the grab bars etc. in the tub, too. Makes life much simpler with a leg or ankle in a cast, believe me! Actually, contact your hotel before you go and let them know about your injury, see what they can offer in the way of assistance. Remember too, to take lots of breaks with your leg up so it doesn't swell.

Are you ok with the tub? You might want to see about renting a bath/shower chair, too. I don't know of anywhere that does that around Disneyland, but I'm sure somebody here could help out with that info if you need it.

One last thing - if you're flying, call the airport and arrange for "meet and assist" with a wheelchair.
