Tips for getting pin #s?

I heard about "tips" for getting pin #s. What are these tips? What do I have to do? I seem to get pin #s ALL the time, but just not for the time I am looking to go. We just got a pin today for Aug-Oct free dining but for the mods and deluxe. Was hoping (sounds greedy I know) for the 40% off the deluxe (WL was our choice).
So what can I do?
Are there certain dates they send codes out?
I did receive the "alice" e-mailed pin # but it wasn't through Aug, but I have heard some people getting that code through most of the 2010 year, could it be possible that that original alice pin sent to me may work through 2010?

oh mi gawd-- I would love the free dining pin.
Heck- I'd be happy with any pin. I did it all. signed up to use the disney site- asked for a free DVD planning kit- have a package deal sitting there. etc.

Wonder if it makes a difference if we are booked already
