Will be driving down to Orlando on 3/22 (friday) from near Pittsburgh. Planned route is I79 to route 19 to I77 then I95. We'll be leaving later (6pm) stopping for the night at around 11 pm, then finish the drive on Saturday. I had been prepared for the crowds @ wdw, but what should we expect on the roads as far as congestion? Any areas that we should stay away from at certain times? Would appreciate any tips for a smooth drive. Also, any suggestions on where to stop along the way for DS 9 and 7 to get out some energy (playgrounds maybe)? Thank you!

Just a heads up talked to my Uncle who works at MK and they have told their employees to be prepared for big crowds over the spring break more so than they had for CHristmas. At Christmas the parks were at capasity by 11:00 a.m the WHOLE week.

So plan to get to the parks early.

beware the speed traps in town of beckley, wv

avoid charlotte during rush hour:crazy2: fyi, it's approx half way there.

suggest checking out mapquest and deciding where you will stop/reserve a room in advance. it's been awhile since we made the drive (thankyouverymuch no-frill airlines!;)) and we never stopped that early in the journey, but i recall there being a whole lot of nothing but beautiful scenery for long stretches of the drive.

We drive from the Youngstown Ohio area and do the I-76, I-77, I-26, I-95, I-4 deal.... Fairly straight forward, avoid the big cities during rush hour, we never take the by-passed around them...

We try to make the Florida/Georgia boarder for the night, we leave roughly 4 am and stop around 7-8pm.... Give us a short drive the next morning to get into WDW early....

Traffic is moderate on I-95, mountains a little tough for a couple of hours in the Virginias but after than, flat roads, red dirt and then palm trees...

Have a safe happy trip!
