Tips for DL Hotel

What are some tips or things you've learned when staying at the Disneyland Hotel???? Thanks!

Here are a few:

*Have breakfast at Steakhouse 55. It's fabulous and a good bargain! My girls share food with us or eachother and they don't charge for sharing.

*Be sure to check out all of the memorabilia between the lobby and Goofy's/Steakhouse 55.

*Take advantage of the free coffee every morning in the lobby of each tower. They supply to-go cups and real cream. Or, if you want one, request a coffee maker if there isn't one in your room. They often leave them out of the rooms but they have them if you want one; just ask.

*Don't miss the nice gift shop between the pool and the Wonder tower. Lots of glass, though, so caution is advised if you have small children with you.

*Be sure to check out the giant projected Tinkerbell in the pool at night!

*Watch for Goofy in the lobby.

*Compass Bookstore next door has some good options for quick eating on the way to the parks--Krispy Creme doughnuts, yogurt parfaits, fruit bowls, cereal, muffins, bagels, coffee drinks, etc.

*If you are unhappy with your room (for a reason other than you'd prefer something better but didn't book it), don't hesitate to say so at the desk. Don't touch anything in the room, just go back down and tell them it isn't acceptable for X reason. We booked a 2-queen room and were given a tiny room that was only large enough for a double bed. I'm not kidding--it was postage-stamp size. We went back to say uh-uh (nicely) and were given a king suite overlooking DTD! Another time, our sink backed up in the middle of the night (we were in bed at the time and hadn't used it) and they moved us to a nicer room plus gave our family a free breakfast buffet at any of the character meal locations, plus unlimited fast passes! We are normally not complainers, but sometimes you have to, and in my experienc DLH has always made it more than worth any hassle we've encountered. We've stayed there many, many times with no problems, but the few times we've had something happen, they've been very good to us.

noee01: One of the guide books I read (Disneyland for Kids) says that the DLH does have PFDs for kids at the pool. I'm hoping that's accurate, but maybe someone else can confirm for us.

Coffee in the lobby ends at 9:00 and they are experimenting with the hours of the coffee shop, where they sell pastries, coffees, specialty coffee drinks, sandwiches, salads, yogurts, fresh fruit , milk and other beverages. The "book" in the room says midnight, when we were there it closed at 5:00 one night, then 7:00 another night.

TIP: Check out the vending machines for some really cost effective snacks, we were buying some danishes from the coffee shop, but it was closed so I thougth I had seen a vending maching with snacks on the 1st floor of the wonder tower. There they had very good Enteman's cheese danish for $1.25 much more reasonable than the 2.99 in the coffee shop and actually better. They also had caramel rice cakes, low fat keebler cookies ( can you tell I am trying to watch what I am eating?).
