Hello,

My mom and I will be leaving for Disney on September 11. I'm trying to come up with something special to do for her while we are there.

My ideas were:

*Something from Disney Florist, or similar: I'm trying to avoid food as we won't need anymore or we won't be able to make it home :rotfl2: Since we won't be in the room much, I don't think flowers will work either. I've looked at some of the baskets that you can buy and have placed in the room, but nothign really interests me or seems like it would interest her.

*Special dinner: Really don't need to since we have meals included and have more than enough.

Cirque: Already been there, really don't want to visit again this year.

Spa Treatment: I really would like this, but I'm not sure if she would be able to relax and enjoy it. She is not the type to lounge around, doesn't swim or anything in public, so I'm not sure if she would enjoy going to the spa if you have to wear the robe around and such. I didn't know if there was anything that could be done where she wouldn't have to wear the rub. I was looking at the foot massage and the hand treatment.

Halloween Party: My moms favorite ride has always been the Haunted Mansion, we always make it a priority to ride it at least once. Since we will be going right after it reopens, I'm a little worried that the line will be huge and we will have to wait forever to ride. Do to health reasons I don't want her to have to wait in line a long time, nor do I think she would enjoy waiting a long time. I know when Disneyland reopened Pirates the wait was huge, as were the subs and things. She has been to the Halloween Party and really enjoyed it, the only other downside would be that I want this to be a trip for her to really relax and just enjoy herself, so I don't know if making her stay out so late is the way to go.... Do you think it is necessary to go to the party, or should the wait be pretty nominal?

Shopping: The only other thing I could figure do was give her a gift card filled with money that she can buy something with. The only thing is that she is not as big of a Disney fan as I am, so I don't know if she will be able to find something that she really likes... I've never used any gift certificates at Disney before, can they be used at any store in Downtown Disney, or just like the World of Disney store? Also, can I get them at the resort, even better, can I get Disney dollars?

Thansk so much, any tips are greatly appreciated!!!! :wizard:

I don't know when your moms birthday is , but if it isn't close maybe celebrate her un-birthday. If you are on the dining plan and/or have ressies scheduled call ahead and let them know you are celebrating her birthday and they will give her a free cupcake at every meal you ask them to. I have also read they will do other surprise things for her as well. Maybe have a t-shirt made for your day at MK that says "celebrating un-birthday" and have her put on the birthday pin you can pick up at the front of the park. I hear she may special treatment. Lots of people celebrate their birthday while they are there wether or not it is close or far. Have a great time with it. this way you are not adding much to your bill, or adding more time in long lines, you are just adding a fun time she will never forget! I plan on doing this with my grandma if I have the chance to take her. Good luck!

Thanks for the idea, that might be something to try. Her birthday is a few months after the trip.

Another thing I thought of is maybe doing something with Photopass, we've never ordered before. I thought maybe doing the book or something and then she could pick what she wants and things.

I just don't know what to do. I would really like it to be something really special that would be unique for her and something she would enjoy. I'm getting started a little late in the game which is making things more difficult, there are so many things to do, but none of them just seem perfect quite yet.

Thanks again, I have it added to my my list ;)

I think whatever you do for her will be perfect no matter what it is. I myself am a mother and I know that it is not always what the child does as much as it is the thought behind the action that touches my heart. She will love whatever you do because you are her daughter. Have a good time and good luck!

Thanks, that makes me feel better.

I just wanted to make this as special as possible. I always try to do something for her when we travel, just haven't has this much trouble before. As hard as she works and everything I just want her to have the best time possible, I just haven't been able to find that perfect gift yet... But, I think I'm narrowing down my options.

Thanks so much!

What about the afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian? You could have a white chocolate Cinderella slipper (ordered ahead of time) made just for her. I am planning to surprise my own Mom this way. ;)

Can the white chocolate slipper only be ordered at the afternoon tea?

I like the idea, but we don't drink tea... also, do you have to dress up there? I'd have to sneak something in the suitcase in order to pull that off. We are planning a more laid back trip, so all the dress clothes are staying home :cool1:

Thanks for the idea!

Do you have any meals planned at the Coral Reef? If so, you could call the restaurant and arrange to have a personalized menu with photos. We are doing this for my parents on Sept. 13. We are just celebrating them so the menu will simply say "We love you!"

We are planning to go to Coral Reef. I've heard of the menu before, but never seen one or anything like that.

Do you have any more info on it, or know how much it costs?

Thanks!

It's free! Just call the restaurant as soon as possible. The woman I corresponded with's name is Debbie

Last year I took my mom to the Afternoon tea for her birthday. I surprised her with the white chocolate slipper; she loved it! This year we are making our girls only trip in January and we are doing the Segway tour :moped: (okay, there is no segway one, but since my mom does live at the beach and drive a scooter, I thought it was appropriate).

Oh, well I suppose that is something to try then. Free is always good!!! I figured it would cost money, you would think everyone would want to do it.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks AKbabe, sounds like fun :thumbsup2

I thought the same thing when I found out they do it for free, surely everyone would want to do it!

They can put any phrase you like on the menu. I also sent 5 photos by email to be included. I'll report on it when I return!:cool1:

Are you flying in? How about having a limo pick you up at the airport. That is a great way to arrive to your resort. I love it.

Lots of fun. I give the driver a cd of epcot music to play while he drives.

Thanks for the suggestion. We do have a limo reserved. We use the same person all the time and he has kind of become like a friend to us, he always does something special when we get there.

That would have been the perfect idea, if we didn't have it reserved already :sad2:

Thanks for the idea!!!
