Our DD, who just turned 18, has chosen to spend the Chrismas holiday with her BF and his family, and my parents has invited her brothers to come and spend the Christmas week with them.

My parents did invite DH and me too, but we know that my father who recently retired are really looking forward to spending some quality time alone with his grandchildren, so we have decided to let them go on their own.

That left DH and myself alone for Christmas for the first time since we got married many years ago.

MY DH has been working very hard for the last year and gotten a lots of positive attention for his work, and 4 weeks ago he was told by his supervisor that he would be getting a very large bonus as a reward and a thank you from the company.

We then started thinking about taking a Christmas vacation, and several destinations were mentioned, but in the end WDW won out. We have been there several times over the last 9 years but this will be our first trip without kids

Our DD then mentioned that this would be like a (VERY) delayed honeymoon (We were poor students when we got married and never travelled anywhere until years later with the kids). :love2:

The idea kinda cought on so I changed the hotel from ASMo to POR and made reservation for dinner at the Castle on Christmas eve and a Carriage Ride at POR the night before Christmas. We are now talking about all the romantic things we want to do on our "Superdelayed but not to be forgotten honeymoon trip"

What do you think ? Do you have any suggestions on how to make this trip special ? What have you all found romantic and special at WDW ? Have any of you tried the carriage ride ?

Going on 20 years and still very much in love....... :lovestruc: :flower3:

It was fabulous, the best vacation ever, and the first one we've ever taken that didn't include family. We really thought that the Yachtsmen Steakhouse was romantic, we went there twice and if you can get in the round room with the windows you can see some of the fireworks from Illuminations. We also took a few boat rides and that was romantic too. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time and will enjoy being together.

Well, eating at California Grill and timing it so you can see the MK fireworks is romantic.

Watching the MK fireworks and then waiting while the crowds thin out so you can see the castle's "kiss goodnight" is romantic.

Sitting on the beach at the Poly and watching the Electric Water Pageant is romantic.

Having a drink somewhere in the DD Marketplace and sipping it while looking over the water is romantic. They have a nice smoothie kiosk which is close to some tables that overlook the water.

Enjoying a late-night dip in the hot tub is romantic.

Eating outside at Fulton's is romatic.

Walking through the World Showcase at night is romantic. That becomes a completely different park at night.

An IllumiNations cruise is romantic, but can be hard to get.

So, if you have money to spend, here are a few ideas.
Disney Weddings and honeymoons can set some really cool things up for you to do. You can take a fireworks cruise and they can include champagne, you can rent the rose garden beside the castle during fireworks or just for a romantic time, call them...they have wonderful ideas!
OR...you can have gifts of a lifetime set something up for you! They have events they can plan for you and your DH, it is a little pricy but depending on the type of person you are, it would be worth it! www.giftsofalifetime.com
My DH and I had a DIsneyMoon 2 years ago and I have to say, there is something to be said about being alone in WDW, no kids. I don't have any kids but it was nice. We had a nice dinner, spend the days at the parks, went shopping, had sodas at Ghiradelli at Dwntwn Dis, watched the fireworks, just enjoyed each others company. It was VERY romantic. Sometimes you don't need anything more than each other. You could do the MVMCP together, or anything! You are at WDW, what could go wrong?

For really romantic indulgence - especially if you like food - see if you can get into Victoria and Albert's. It is truly an amazing experience and worth the extra money!

We did the carriage ride for my extravagant birthday trip at POR. Our driver was Becky and the horse Ike. We brought along a bottle of champagne and thought it was especially romantic. Remember your camera--mine was at home on the kitchen table!

We enjoy walks around resorts in the evenings. Even tho we stay elsewhere we enjoy eating at Pepper Market and strolling around the Lake at CSR. POR is an excellent choice.

Is it ok to bring your own champagne ? or do/can you order the Champagne along with the carriage ride ?

We too love CSR, having stayed there twice and are planning to have dinner there one evening

Thank you for your help

We were stuggling poor students when we got married too! We went to WDW for the millenium and DH proposed again three years after our wedding with a beautiful ring! We had a wonderful romantic trip!
Highlights:
Victoria and Alberts for dinner - DH still says it was the best meal he ever had - split the wine pairing though!
Dinner at the Castle, and at Chefs de France, both during the fireworks
Try champagne and a Cinderella's Castle Wedding Cake from GF bakery waiting for you in your room when you arrive. Or what about a lovely boquet and flowers.

Where are you staying? Port Orleans is a very romantic moderate but you can't beat GF - what about a honeymoon room - even for just one night!?

I am in the midst of trying to arrange Santa Mickey to give DH a mickey watch he has had his eye on for ages at a special event with the GF next christmas...

Have a wonderful time!

my suggestions (DH and I are in our 30's - no kids):

Make sure you spend time relaxing at the resort. Port Orleans is romantic - walking along the paths, swimming if the weather is appropriate.

We rented a small boat and went down the Sassagoula all the way from riverside to downtown disney - highly recommend. It was like a little adventure. We passed POFQ, key west, the tree houses and it was fun.

I recommend the California Grill. Imho its the best at the world and well worth the price.

Here's a tip. If you go the MK in the evening, when you leave, instead of getting on transportation, walk from the MK on the path to the Contemporary and go up to the Cal Grill - if you don't want dinner, at least for drinks and appetizers or coffee/tea and desert. One night we sat in the lounge area and ordered drinks and a flatbread there.

I highly recommend doing an illuminations cruise. We did one for our honeymoon and it was very romantic. We got to the dock a little early so the captain cruised us around MGM and the boardwalk to look at all the lights. The boat then docks under the bridge to watch illuminations. It was beautiful.

Wow a belated Honeymoon. Looks like times of fun are headed your way. We did our Disneymoon in April. It was a blast. But I will tell you this. When we went we were pretty busy for about 3 weeks prior to going getting all the wedding stuff together and got married on 4-4-04. The next morning we went to DIsney. Needless to say we tried to do everything we could. Very tiring. So that leads us to 4 days from now. When we are off again for Christmas decorations with the mouse. We cannot wait. I would suggest getting the Mickey and Minnie bride and groom ears and wearing them every where you go. YOU WILL GET A LOT OF Attention. If the hats won't work, get personalized shirts or sweat shirts.

Most of all..have fun. We plan on doing a lot and at the same time just enjoying our time together and for our long awaited vacation. Just found out that Sunday the 5th when we are supposed to be at Epcot, it is supposed to rain. Oh well get the panchos...

Thank you all for your nice wishes and good advice :D

Thanks to another DIS'er who offered to share we're now going on a wishes cruise on christmas day. I have also made reservations at the luau and the Rose & Crown hoping to get an outside table for illuminations.

I have also ordered champagne and flutes for when we arrive ( Do anyone know how these look - they are described as "our signature glasses" ?

My DH have had some dealings with the disney florist that I should not know about ( He had used my pc and somehow my email adress and not his had been used as a return adress. I did forward it to him unread :badpc: )

I have also managed to get the perfect christmas present for my husband. My husband is a MAJOR buccaneers fan, and this is the first time we're in Florida during the football season. The pirate: buccaneers have a home game on the 26th of december and thanks to a kind person on the buccaneers BBS I was able to purchase two faboulous tickets to a game that is otherwise totally sold out. He even sold me the tickets at face value asking only his shipping expenses covered. I know my husband really really wanted to go but gave up when he saw what people were asking on ebay.. He thinks we're going to be watching the game at the ESPN but I'll give him the tickets on christmas eve. I cant wait to see his face

Well once again thank you all for your suggestions. You're the best
