My Sister-in-law and her husband will be traveling with us on our next trip in January. This will be my in-laws first trip at WDW. My Sister-in-law is very excited and her husband is very reluctant to go. We’re staying at the VWL since we love the place and think they would enjoy it as well. My Brother-in-Law likes good food, golf, and is a bit of a techno-geek. One would think what better place for him to be than WDW. :confused3 Unfortunately, he’s not too keen on the whole “Disney thing”. :faint:

My Sister-in-Law would like for this to not be her one and only trip to WDW. I’m looking for suggestions on how to sprinkle the pixie dust, make him feel the magic, and otherwise have a marvelous experience that he will want to repeat.

Help me make a convert! :wizard:

When we went last summer, it was my husband's first time. He wasn't 'overly excited' before we went, but he was up for it. He always thought Disney was 'overrated' (?? The Horror!! ) Anyway, by the end of our 2nd day there, he was talking about our NEXT trip. He said 'Now I see what all the fuss is about.' We're going this Oct and he is just as excited as me!

The saying is, "If you can't be happy while at DW, you can't be happy anywhere". Your brother-in-law will love it and he'll have a great time. It's impossible not to! It will come natural.

I made my DH a Disney addict when I signed him up for the Magic Behind the Steam Train Tour. He is the ultimate techno-geek and has always loved trains etc. and this was the highlight of the trip for him and it just made everything more magical and wonderful for him. If he isn't into trains, maybe the Epcot Around the World/Segway tour. I don't know anyone that wouldn't be thrilled with that.

I agree with the idea of a tour. I too am planning a Segway tour at Epcot for DH. All part of my insidious plan to convert him to a Disney lover! Hopefully your trip will go smoothly and your BIL will see what all the fuss is about too.

And of course there are several golf courses - I'm not a golfer myself, but I understand they are quite good. Maybe this would be something that he would enjoy.

My brother in-law didn't now what all the excitment was about. We took them to BCV or home resort just at the hotel you could see he was starting to change his mind. When we got to MK and he saw the look on his DD & DS face on the moniral in looking at the Castel he was hooked. He also enjoyed all the food and how clean the park was. We got hit a light up hat to wear around the park and he loved it. He now puts the hat on at home and ckeck how it work when he is fealing the nead for some magic. We will bring the back next year so he can have some magic. He talk about WDW all the time and is saving for the trip we give them the room to help them out. But it was a 100% turn around for fro i don't care tio when can we go again. :cool1:

Not to worry, your sister-in-law's hubby will be forever changed by his trip to WDW. He'll be wondering why he ever had doubts he would enjoy himself.

I'm sure when he realizes that there are plenty of things for adults he'll catch the wdw-bug! :earsboy: I can sympathize b/c I'm currently trying to convince my boyfriend that Disney World is not someplace we should wait to go together until we have kids! :earseek:

My DH was reluctant too for our first trip in 2002. He is a golfer and techno geek too - however HE LOVES EPCOT!! We just took our 3rd trip in May and get this he actually said next trip we are staying DELUXE!!! I can only get him there once every 12 - 18 months so I know I will most likely never be an AP holder as we will never go more than once a year but I am just excited that I can get him to return. :flower:

Just do what I did. Give up convincing and give him the trip as a present. :) When we met in early January I already had two trips planned: 5 days in March and 9 days in September. March was a bit too soon for him, but as we've gotten closer to Sept I'd been working on him. He said "Maybe' "we'll see" but I knew if I didn't take action he'd come up with a reason not to go. So I called his boss and asked if he could have that week off. I talked to his brother and had him put the dates on his calendar that he uses for booking shows (they play in a band on weekends). I bought his ticket and then I put together a package to give him for his birthday last week and I said "You're going to Disney World." Since I took care of all the things he could use as excuses, he has no way out of it. :)

I'm doing my best to really wow him. Luckily I'm a DVC member so I was able to borrow some points to wow him with a 1-bedroom unit. I'm making this trip all about pleasing him. He wants to go to Sea World: I got tickets. He mentioned the Sea Raycers: We'll do it. He wants to go to Daytona USA one day: No problem. I'm starting him out at Epcot and I figure between Mission: Space, Test Track, Soarin', and alcohol, he'll have a good time. We're not going to even set foot in MK until our 4th or 5th day (which will nearly kill me, but it's all about him). I figure I can sacrifice some of my normal WDW routines for one trip if it means I can give him a great time and hopefully get him back down there again. I have a time share for the next 49 years, and I'd like to have him around that long too!

If your brother-in-law is into golf, I would suggest you look into the private golfing lessons for him. I did this for my husband for Father's Day one year. It was just him and the instructor and the wonderful Disney courses. I think the price was $140 or something but it was something he still talks about.

Other suggestions - get him involved in the planning now. Work with your sister-in-law and find some restaurants you think he would enjoy. Print out the menus and have him make a decision on at least one. That would be his "special" meal.

I've taken many reluctant first-timers to Disney World. Once there, though, they find something they really like. For my father-in-law, it was all the trees and flowers. For my brother-in-law, it was being able to shop for books and things like that in World Showcase. Your brother-in-law will find something for him. The trick is for everyone else to realize that and let him enjoy it. That's the secret to get him back.

What about EPCOT, things like Innoventions he might like. Also Disney Quest?
And they have that great golf course, plan a day for the guys to golf and the ladies to do something else together maybe. Those are my ideas but all in all Im sure hell like it anyways have fun!!!!!!!
