Tips for a first time solo-er? Single mom with 2 small kids.

I was planning on going as a single parent with my dd5 and dd2, but my friend/nanny decided to join us with her ds2. My spouse may join us but probably not.

Go at your children's pace. Take advantage of their early wake up times with hitting the parks early. Go back to your resort for naps and swims. Take a day off in the middle of the trip. Expect to have a few moments where things don't go well. Give yourself some breaks. Good luck!

If you have someone that is willing to share a bed with you, I'd bring along a parent, sister, brother, cousin or even a friend. The room would be free to them and park tics would be free for three of the days. You might be lucky enough to get them to pay for their own eats at least. Airfare is another consideration on costs. It's worth a try. Can you take a few more days off and drive there if you haven't bought airfare yet to accomodate the helper? You haven't really stated how old each child is. Do your children get tantrums, etc? Even the older child may not be up to standing all day; so, I would reconsider the double stroller idea, as well. Maybe, buy a cheap one at home and pay the tariff to take it on the plane. Even if you leave the stroller behind when you're done with the trip it might be worth it. I have given freebies to others I see there that I think could use the help that way after I'm done with whatever. How much has your spouse helped out with the kids before on trips to the zoo, etc? If you are not use to doing it by yourself you may want to practice at home first.

I know from my own experience that fairy godmothers don't come cheap. They expect to eat if you eat and they want you to pay for that, too depending on the lenght of the day. Some want transportation expense, now. Others expect a tip. Talk with the rep; so, you really know what you are getting into on that count. There may be minimums to consider, too. Also, your child may not take to a stranger.

The trip could stress you out. If you will be newly separated all of it may hit you hard for a while. You will be making adjustments for a while. You need to be careful this doesn't rub off onto your children especially on a trip that's suppose to be fun. Also, this will be an adjustment to your children and they may act up more because of the changes.

I don't want to bring down your parade, but please give thought through it all.
