Well i booked today and the only 2 br left on dvc property was ssr. I have waitlisted at BLT and WLV so im hoping to get one of those for ease of transportation to everywhere.

Here is what i am looking for;
some tips on rooms to request. I will be playing golf and also love downtown disney. Something accomodation to each. Pool location is a factor as i plan on soaking my 3 yr old monster at least 2 days pre naptime.

Secrets or tips about SSR that i may not know.
We are a well oiled Disney family and little suprises us anymore. Watched the 6 hours of disney behind the scenes stuff on tv a while back and learned nothing. Sad but true.

Other than that just wondering what other goodies you may all suggest.
We do the Dining plan so we dont eat in room.

Let me know disboarders. thanks

The closest area to Downtown Disney is Congress Park.

The closest area to the golf clubhouse is either Springs or Grandstand.

That said our favorite area is Paddocks since the opening of the new pool and counter service there.

As to transportation certainly BLT or VWL are great for access to the Magic Kingdom but SSR is better for access to the Studios, Epcot and Animal Kingdom.

We really enjoyed eating at the turf club after lounging at the pool all day. The food tasted homemade. And it was great to just walk there and back without having to wait for a bus etc. We are staying this July and I am hoping to be in congress park. I love being able to walk to DTD and it is only a short walk to the main pool- we prefer one with a bar;)

SSR is really a beautiful resort. Keep an open mind and you will have a great time.

always have an open mind. i like the proximity to the different places and ppols there. i love the paddock pool look and the one at the golf course. played it a few times and would love to walk from villa to pro shop.

Congress Park is the first building to get the new rehab if that interests you.

1st - the bad news - It's highly unlikely that your waitlist will come in!

2nd - the good news - I think you will be pleasantly surprised with SSR. As a golfer, you above all will appreciate the greens, beautiful. The Turf Club is a hidden gem amongst resort restaurants. (Stuffed mushrooms & prime rib!) SSR's QS the Artist's Palette is very good as well. The pools fabulous, the grounds spectaculour. My favorite building, Congress Park, DTD view, we have requested it 3 times in the past and received it each time. The view is beautiful during the day but really at night, it's fantastic. Take the boat to and from DTD, it's fun and you get to see the sights!

My favorite resort is OKW, has been from the get go, but at times I can't get it so I request SSR! I think you are going to like it!

So is there an area of SSR where you can walk to the LBV course clubhouse? DH is playing golf there one morning, and was planning to drive, but if he can walk, my DD and I can have the car!

We have stayed in all areas (except Carousel) and I think the Paddock is my new favorite. I love the new pool area and I think your 3 yo will have a fabulous time in that area. The kiddie area at the new pool is far better than any of the others. They also have games and music pool side. I loved the walk across the "lake" and we saw lots of wildlife on our walks to DtD...otters, pelicans, rabbits and a fox!

if you go to google maps and search walt disney world or ssr down there you can see the golf pro shop. It is basically located in the Carriage house. So walkable from all points in ssr i think. Easier from others. I may request grandstand simply for location as it seems far aenough form a ton of noise, yest still close enough. ill probably play ospprey ridge one day as well but thats a short drive, or work a car pool in with Dw DMIL and DS and DFIL to magnolia and they can do bfast over there. All resis are madea nd i cant wait.

We stayed in the Grandstand section last Dec because DH wanted a golf course view. It was beautiful. My dds liked the quiet pool and splash area in that section and it was just about a 5-7 minute walk to Carriage house, main pool and LBV club house. You are also first on and first off the buses which is nice when you have little ones. We also walked to DTD from there. We really like SSR.

I want to second Paddocks and the under 48" play area for little ones. It has great splash potential, two small slides and *table umbrellas and chairs* for those supervising! There's a pool bar and fast food and hot tub too. Plus the big slide looked good.

At my walking (non-exercise stroll) rate, it'd take the following amounts of time to get to the Clubhouse (golf) at SSR (which is right below Turf Club (Restaurant) in the Carriage House (where check-in is):

Grandstand (furthest building): 7 minutes; 3-4 minutes (closest building)
Springs: 3-5 minutes, depending on which building
Paddock: 10 minutes
Congress Park: 10 minutes
Carousel: 10 minutes

(Note: once you've been there (or studied a map), you'll see choices of routes to take--the above times are the most direct/shortest routes, based on my walking rates (maybe 20 minutes to do a mile) when I'm not exercising/hurrying...

So...if 10 minutes is "walking distance" for you (and given that you're a golfer, it probably is), then all SSR areas are walking distance...

If you're feeling tired or have sore feet or if it's raining or something like that, there is an internal bus route (Grandstand, Paddock, Carousel, Congress Park, Springs) ... get off at Springs and walk across the road...go into Carriage House and head towards to back to Turf Club...walk out the Turf Club "outside door" and walk down the stairs and take the path to the right...that'll take you to the Club House...

Like the other posters here, we LOVE SSR...it's one of our family's 3 favorite resorts (it's tied for number 1 with me)...

Have a great time!

in sure ill love it. we love blt as its our home resort and its just so darn convenient. but im trying to branch out. this last minute trip was supposed to be boardwalk, but its way too close so ssr it is. Ill love it no matter where i saty but will probably request the grandstand as its right there and not right there is you know what i mean.

The clubhouse and pro shop are on the 1st floor of the Carriage House, immediately under the Turf Club restaurant. They're accessed from the back side of the building. (The Carriage House is also the location of the front desk, the Turf Club, Artist's Palette QS restaurant and market, and the Spa.)

The two closest sections would be the Springs and the Grandstand, and both are an easy walk. If coming from the Grandstand, follow the signs to the boat dock, and walk back behind the Carriage House building. (Turn to the right down the path before you get to the portico and bell services area.) If coming from the Springs, either walk through the pool area and through the building and down the back stairs near the Turf Club, or go around the building to the left (past the DVC preview center).

We always stay at Congress Park, but we enjoy being able to walk to DTD for food. There is a quiet pool at CP and the pools at Springs, Grandstand and Paddock are all much more themed. It's never taken us 10 minutes to walk to the Carriage House from CP. The entire resort is quiet. We've never heard real noise ever when we've stayed there.
As a side note...we also watched the 6 hours of behind the scenes and didn't learn anything new either! :confused3

I'd recommend the Springs as the best place to stay. SSR is our home resort and we stayed in the Springs last time and it was so convenient to everything. It places you close to the main pool, Artists Pallette, the boat dock to go to DTD, and the Turf Club/golf course.

Only down side would be that the bus stop is the last SSR one so during busy times you could end up standing (we never had an issue in April 2011 though).

SSR is great. You'll enjoy it regardless of the area, but I am definitely a fan of the Springs area.

We have stayed in the Grandstand and Paddock area. We enjoyed them both, but we really like the ambiance of the Grandstand. Also, we walked to the boat dock and floated to DTD - it is so relaxing. I sincerely think you will enjoy your stay there. The first time we stayed there it seemed like a "****y prize" as our beloved BCV were booked solid. Now we sometimes choose to stay there - it is so nice.
