Finally I can book Southwest out of Charleston. I've never booked them before as they didn't fly anywhere in SC.

What tips can you give me about booking Southwest and getting the best deals?

Download the ding program from southwests website to your computer. And sign up for there newsletter. If you bought a ticket with them and you see a better fare you can change it with no penalty. They dont refund the money unless you got an unrestricted fare but they will issue ticketless travel funds that you have one year to use.

We just booked our first flight with southwest and I am pretty jazzed about the free 2 pieces of luggage per person for free  anyways I had read on here about the credit for the price difference if you book your flight and the price goes down. Well since we booked I have received credit of 123.00 because I caught the price decreases. It is super easy to get the credit too! Happy booking!

Download/install Ding!, but understand that you have to check it regularly during the day for it to help.

Watch your flights everyday, and at different times of the day. Prices go up and down constantly, so be prepared to grab them if you see a flight at a price you like.

After you've reserved & paid for your flights, it's always worth watching Ding and the website to see if the price has gone down, because you can easily change the flight for no fee. Just cancel the old flight, which puts your money into a credit with a code number; then reserve the new flight (or same flight with new price) with that code number. The balance of your money will sit in that reserve account with that same code number until you use it on another flight.

Get on the website exactly 24 hours before the flight is scheduled to depart, and check-in. This will assign you an earlier place in line to board the plane and choose your seat(s). A tickets go first, then the B's, then the C's. At the gate, they ask the A's to line up in numerical order according to the posts on the floor. After the A's are on, they have the B's line up in numerical order. Of course, if you've got a wheel-chair or small children, you can board before the A's.

Southwest is my FAVORITE way to fly!!! Enjoy your trip!

Yeah, it's a bit interesting at first for boarding. But it's actually kind of nice. And since most flights are not direct, if you have a flight that just stops in a city, you can get up and change seats before the next group boards.

Most the time, people will look to sit in the first few rows or emergency exit rows. So one part of the flight, you might be on a full flight and the next segment it empties out.

We're excited about Charleston too! Wish it had been Myrtle Beach since it's only 10 mins from home, but I'll take Charleston. ;)
