Tipping mousekeepers?

How much?

How?

I had not even thought of this. I had no idea this was expected. Help!!!

Thanks!

we just got back from Port Orleans and I left $1/day/person.

Be sure you leave it in a noticebale place or they won't take it.

If you have the time, you can check out this website http://users.adelphia.net/~heidiw/. She has the cutest pictures that will print out on a standard envelope and they're designed for Mousekeeping tips.

I also tip $1 per person/per day, unless we've been extremely messy. Are you staying in a deluxe resort? Because they do turn-down service in the evening.

Also, I always take care of my tip envelopes before I leave home. It makes it so much easier to get the $1 dollar bills from the bank then trying to fish for them as we're running off to the parks. I just put my envelopes in the room safe and take them out as needed. You can leave the envelope on top of the towels, or hamper if you have one in your resort. Another good spot is the vanity area.

Have a great trip.

This can be a very hot topic on these boards.

If you would like tip mousekeeping some folks enjoy using these envelopes to be sure mousekeeping knows it is for them:

I use the envelopes and tip $5 at a deluxe and usually $3-5 at a value or moderate (for two people). If they are changing sheets everyday I do $5...also at GF I leave an eneveople for evening turn down service.

I get the envelope ready a few weeks before I go so I do not have to think about it again while there..and then it does not come out of my vacation money:) Also keep it in the room safe.

You might want to do a search - the other day I saw a list of appropriate tips for housekeeping, bell services etc.

Nothing is required...it is a way of showing appreciation. :)

Just curious, why do you tip more at the Deluxe resorts? Do you believe the mousekeeping services are better their, or that they do more for you? Or is it simply that you paid more money? Like tipping a waitperson?

Personally, I have always tipped the same for all levels of resorts, but I can see the flip side. The deluxe resorts have bigger rooms, bigger bathrooms, usually a daybed to make up, etc.

Good question!

I feel bad tipping more for deluxe so I usually wind up tipping the same - but also an evening tip for turn down service and refreshing towels, bath supplies etc.

Also, at the deluxes (or at GF) the beds are huge, room larger, larger bathroom, changing area sinks etc...so $4 at a value/moderate seemed okay, but maybe I am wrong. I think this time I'll do $5 each morning.

Thanks for helping me think this through!

LOL!! Come on over - we'll be at POP some of the same nights!!
::yes::

What do you think is fair? I would hate cleaing up after someone else and want to tip what seems fair :)

I'm open to suggestions!! :)

When I was at Pop last year I left $1/person per day (there were three of us). We didn't leave the room too messy, but we did eat in the room (cleaned up any mess for the most part, though). The mousekeeping was ok, but not anything out of the ordinary.

I'd rather tip too much than not enough so I think you are on track with your amounts. An extra dollar or two is not going to break my budget, but might mean something to someone cleaning my room.

Hopefully I'll see you soon!

The one thing I've not read on DIS is anyone posting of really great mousekeeping at POP?

When we were there last Feb is was okay too...nothing great - did not vacuum or change sheets the entire 4 nights (I saw the notice about requesting bedding being changed on the 3 day).

We laughed about the lack of vacuuming figuring she thought it was clean enough! :) We were very neat and clean too.

This time I will call if the room is not vacuumed as it is 6 nights - I am also going to request fresh linen everyday...so $5 it will be :)

See you there with your LIME BIRTHDAY BUTTON T&G

We tipped $5 every morning at the CR during our stay. Mousekeeping was very good to us. :D

Hi, (I moved this from it's original thread)

I have a question about tipping. We just got back from the Poly and attended the Aloha dinner with my dh and 2 ds. I ordered a drink not included in the dinner and received a bill at the end. Tucked inside the bill folder was a bill for the drink and a card that said that gratuity was not included in the bill and would be very welcome (or words to that effect). So I paid with a credit card and filled in a tip for the drink and the entire dinner. I also noted on the slip that the tip was for the dinner too.

Our waitress, who had been very nice and attentive all evening long, then acted as if I had given her a small treasure! She came over, thanked us profusely, and cleaned out the glass my drink came in and wrapped it up for me to bring home as a souvenier, etc.

Has anyone heard that gratuity is not included in the Aloha dinner? Has anyone seen this 'tipping card' before? Did it just refer to the drink? Did I overtip? I didn't see other diners leave tips on tables.

I haven't been before, but did look it up an allears... http://allearsnet.com/din/luau.htm

Hey, look at it this way, you REALLY made her day!

Way back in the olden days, when I used to wait tables ;) I would occasionally wait on someone who would leave a big tip and that so made a difference in my day.

I tip the same ($1 or $2 a night per person) whether we are staying at a Value or Deluxe. The room rate reflects the size of the room, ammenities, etc. My tip reflects my appreciation for good service. If I don't get it, I don't tip. Housekeeping works (or should) just as hard at the Values at they do at the Deluxes.

I did not mean to imply that housekeeping at values do not work as hard, but they do not have as much work to do in each room. At a deluxe the beds are larger (as are rooms), & require change of linen everyday etc.

Having stayed on site for many years(deluxe, moderate and now a value) did not expect a difference in the way the room was cleaned etc. There was an obvious difference in the level of cleanliness at the POP as opposed to the deluxes (room was not vacuumed or dusted, beds were made up, but not changed etc).

We tip $5 a day for two adults and one child. We give the same whether it is a deluxe hotel or the Hampton Inn.

we left $2 every day in the room

it was wrapped in a piece of paper with those mousekeeping logos on that website

I stay at AKL and tip $5/day. My last trip, mousekeeping cleaned my room while I was down working out. I came back to a cleaned room and then I had to shower and get ready to go. Came back from the parks late afternoon and mousekeeping had recleaned the bathroom area and replenished towels!

I leave again next week and will be tipping $5/day again.
