Tipping when not eating in the main dining room?

For those who don't already know, the servers work on a rotation as well. On the days their guests have dinner in Lumere's/Triton's/Royal Palace/Royal Court the servers work the same location for breakfast/lunch. The same holds true for Carioca's/Parrot Cay/Enchanted Garden. Then, on the days that their guests have dinner in Animator's Palate they work at Cabanas/Beach Blanket Buffet during breakfast and lunch. They do get a occasional shift off, but they usually work three meals per day, seven days per week.

So, as others have said, you are tipping for the service you get throughout your cruise. While your server may not actually be serving you, someone else's will be. Tipping just your own serving team makes it much easier for everyone and ensures that all servers are covered.

This is a discussion that none of you will change the mind of others. The "tipping police" never met a person they won't tip and are never satisfied at how much money they "say" they give. They always "say" that more is better. No it isn't in my eyes. I tip a fair amount but the servers working the buffets etc... That is part of the employment agreement that they signed. Their room and board is covered in it to along with a small wage. Sorry I don't tip if not using the dining room. For example we eat at Palo one sometimes two times a cruise. So on a 7 day cruise I do reduce by about 10% the "suggested" tip I leave for the dining room. I do tip Palo that night. The dining room servers now work less and can dedicate more time to the others hence potential to earn higher tips. No need to throw my money away. Plus people like some of you will more than makeup the difference. :).

The wage you say us very small circa $50' the suggested tips over a full cruise will be less then most people tip on land for a meal. Yes they sign up for it in the anticipation of the tips as income as they can't get good paid employment at home.

None of us like the set up, but it is what it is, tipping is personal what you tip us up to you.

I do not like " rules police" but there hasn't been any " tipping police" here just facts.....
