I had the oddest reaction from the pizza delivery guy. Local shop of a national chain. I order online and always charge the tip when I charge the pizza. I do a rough calculation, and try to hit 20%, although this time, it was a bitmore than that because of the odd amount...$19 and change for the pizza, I tipped $4.00. I always tip round dollar amounts, rather than odd amounts.

Well, as soon as I opened the door, the delivery guy (a guy in his 30's probably....definitely not a college or high school kid) gushed about "what a wonderful tip" it was and how much he appreciated it. He kept on in this vein during the time I signed the receipt and collected the pizza, and then he added that I "wouldn't believe the number of people who give no tip or just round up to the nearest dollar."

I believe in tipping them generously. I want my pizza HOT and delivered first if they have multiple pizzas to deliver through the neighborhood, and I'm guessing that's what I get. Never had an issue with them.

To me, it's just a couple of bucks. To them, I think, it's a way of making a decent living for their hard work.

So what do the people here do? Am I "outside the norm" or just average.

20% or $5, whichever is more. I used to just do 20% but often I order just a single pizza and my close friend who used to deliver pizzas as a teen said based on his past experiences, he will never tip a pizza guy less than $5, so I adopted that.

It really depends, but average between 10-20%. Minimum tip is $3, but they get more depending on the total and how far they have to go. Also, I verify if the driver gets any of the delivery charge because sometimes they do.

This weekend, staying at a hotel for daughter's cheer competition, and we ordered from the place across the parking lot. I spent $25, but only gave him $3 since he was able to walk over and he was also delivering 4 other orders at the same time. (A group of moms ordered, but paid separately. We each spent about the same and each gave $3-4.)

If the weather is bad, I tip better. If I'm not feeling well, thus the reason I got it delivered, I tip better.

We don't get delivery. The place we get our pizza at is exactly 2 miles door to door but it takes them almost an hour to get it to us.

I order online, hubby drives to get it, and it is always just coming out of the oven when he gets there, and he is home with piping hot pizza in less than 20 min.

We don't tip when we pick up and that is based on where we get our pizza states "no tip on carryout".

I rarely get pizza delivered, but when I do, I never think in terms of percentage.
I tip $5 minimum up to $20 depending on the size of the order.

Minimum of $5 plus keep the change from the difference what I gave and the cost. So if the pizza was $16.50 and I paid with a twenty dollar bill, the tip would be $5 + 3.50 for a total of $8.50.

I don't tip percentages like I do at a restaurant. I give $1 per box/item (min $3 even if I only get 1-2 items, which is rare) more in bad weather or if they were really quick. I think it comes out about 15%

More than 20%, but I WAS a pizza guy for a brief time & I know that has influenced the outcome somewhat LOL

Everyone I know who was ever a pizza guy, server or busboy is now a ridiculously generous tipper (mean that in a good way). You've definitely walked a mile in their shoes and know what it takes!

Nothing --- I'm not sure I've even had pizza delivered this century.

We live within a few miles of multiple pizza places, so I can pick it up and get back in less than 10 minutes...or I can wait an hour for them to deliver it.

Where's the other? I don't really tip by percentage. I always tip at least $5 but I was also a domino's deliverer for a while.

I'm surprised how long some of you have to wait for a delivered pizza. If I ordered right now, I can pretty much guarantee I'd have my pizza in less than a 1/2 hour. I don't think I could pick it up in less time, allowing for time to make it. Most nights, if I do order pizza, I order it a few hours in advance and specify a delivery time that suits me. They've never missed. In fact, it tends to be 10 minutes early, which I suppose could be a complaint. LOL.

We usually order 3 @ time so it is a flat $5 every time

Like pp. usually $5 cash on an approx $20 check. usually 1 pizza and garlic rolls.
