I know tipping is far more customary in the US then it is over here.

How are you supposed to tip the "mousekeepers" is it supposed to be daily? In the day you leave? And how much should it be?

Since being an adult (the last 2 trips) and travelling without my parents we haven't tipped, but I think we should have been... any tips?

We tip $1pp/per day.

So $2 each day and leave it out on the bed in an envelope.

When we checked out of the GF I left a lot more as the room was a state and the fridge was full of wedding cake and I'd left the hoop from my wedding dress in the room! So I felt really guilty!

Seems a bit stingy compared to leaving $3 at the end of the trip, but then I figure if the cleaners change halfway through or work different days etc then some would miss out.

We always tip $1 a day per person, so for my family of 5 that's $5 a day and we leave it daily.

I've heard various opinions of this, including people stating that Mousekeepers aren't supposed to accept tips. However we've always left tips daily, $1 per person in room, and make it clear it is for Mousekeepers - leave a little note with it saying thankyou, or in a special envelope.

Basic rule is $1 + $1 per person ($5 for a party of 4)
tip everyday because you may not have to same mousekeeper every day, so tipping on a weekly basis might not be fair.

Tipping is not mandatory, but it's highly appreciated.
Tipping does not guarantee you pixie dust in the room (towel animals, etc)

we leave the tip on the tablet below the mirror in the bathroom.
some make enveloppes with designs, one for each day.
I personnaly just take a piece of paper, fold it in 2 and write "mousekeeping, thank you" and put it on top of the $1 bills.
Mousekeepers will not take the money if you don't indicate that it is for them.

we generally print the envelopes (the proformas are on the dibb website or the mouseforless and are free to download.)

Alternatively we leave the money with a note on the bed

As above Mousekeeping is not a tipped postion, they should not really accept any tips but Disney turn a blind eye to it.

Personally I do not tip them, I only tip postions where it is expected but if you feel you want to tip them I am sure they will appreciate it.

I agree I never tip mousekeeping. Go buy yourself a mickey pop instead

We don't tip housekeeping however we do leave any unopened food/drinks for them when we check out.

We keep the room tidy ourselves so don't feel the need.

They will only take it if it is clear it is for them - taking some envelopes is a good idea.

Also tipping daily is better if you are going to tip not just once at the end of the trip in case your housekeeper has the day off.

We make Mousekeeping Envelopes and tip $1 a person daily. You never know if you will have the same person every day. On holidays, we always throw in a little bit more.

:)

DBF and I tip $2 per day. Last year we tipped every day with just one exception (when we had no change)- on this day alone, we didn't return to anything 'special' in the room (i.e. a towel animal or one of our mascots being placed in an amusing position etc.).

we have always tipped and will carry on doing so. We leave the standard of $1 per person, so $2 per day. I think it is very much appreciated. I know that mousekeeping at Disney earn better then other equiv jobs but its still not a lot and I think that although Disney say they shouldn't accept tips, they also know they do and these ladies/gents do a hard but great job. At least they always have for us. In fact I might increase it this year to $3 per day :)

Ok so ours was not wedding related but we went shopping and left shoes boxes etc so we made sure to tip extra that day.

We are also in the $1 per person group.

We also tip $1 per person, per day, so $2 for us. I've never bothered with mousekeeping envelopes and simply leave the money on the bed waiting to be made up.

Also don't be afraid to leave it in change! We stayed for a week at RPR (Universal) last time and our housekeeper there tracked us down one day and told us how much she appreciated that we left her a tip and that it was in change. We were nearing the end of our holiday so trying to get rid of the coins and she was just so happy about it as it meant she had her bus fare home each day!

$5 per day. We are a family of 4. My view is if you are privileged enough to be at WDW then you can stretch to tipping someone who barely earns enough to stay above the official poverty line. I'm embarrassed that people don't.

We dont normally leave a tip everyday, as in some cases we feel like they do "EXPECT" it and therefore dont EARN it.

The case of no towel animals on the one day that no tip was left is a prime example - had this happened to me they wouldnt have got anymore money out of me!

Mine and DH's feelings are that people get paid to do a job, unlike with waitressing where a service is being provided we do not tip. IF someone goes above and beyond, as our mouskeeping did and to be fair usual does in Disney we tip.

She left us varios towel animals, gave us extra detergent etc so we felt like she was doing something special, we tipped accordingly. Normally $5 every couple of days. And if we see the "usual" mousekeeper on the final day, we would give $10 plus any change we had left over - We also leave all food/drinks which are unopened and this year left a tinkerbell stroller which was only 2 weeks old and our daughters cinderella balloon from MK, which we couldnt fly with. She had told us she had a 6 month old baby girl so we made sure she knew it was for her, so no one else took it. (we got a double puncture on our Phil and teds and had to buy 2 strollers until we could get new tyres shipped to us) as we only had 2 children we could only take 2 of them home!

I'm embarrassed that people don't.

Sorry you feel like that but this site is not for judging others. Bottom line is they are doing a job that is advertised without tips, people who stay in Disney resorts are already paying for that service included in their nightly rate, it is entirely upto the guest to decide how much tip they want to leave. No-one should feel embarassed about something that is not expected.

This is one reason why I make up the envelopes. I make them up and put the money in them before we even leave home.
