Tipping the maid

We were at Portofino Bay last week for five nights and on the last day I left a $20 bill on the table with a note that said "Thank You".

I usually leave a tip at the end of the trip. Maybe I'll start doing it at the beginning now! I tip depending on how often I use the maid. Very often, we just leave the do not disturb sign on the door and don't use the maid service at all except to grab new towels.

Oh no, not for one night - we were there five nights and I left the tip on the last day. I'm sorry my post was confusing. I will edit it.

She may not have known that it was for her. I usually leave the tips out at a very open and obvious spot. If you left it on the bed she may have thought that it fell out of your purse or something. I too leave $5.00 per day, but I leave it every day because the maids could change daily.

We always leave a thank note with the $5 tip, so there is no mistaking it is for her. Also, we leave a tip every morning, because it could be a different housekeeper. If you leave it all at the end of the week, it could be the housekeepers one day off, and she won't get it.

Since reading this board...I am going to make envelopes with cash inside before we leave for housekeeping.
