What is the going rate for tipping the maid. Haven't been for a couple fo years, but there were two of us so we left $2 on the bed, and when we came back she had put it on the side by the TV! I don't want to insult anyone.

I usually wait until the end of my stay to tip. Then it's usually $5 a day, unless they have gone out of their way to take care of me, then I add a couple of dollars a day.

She may not have known that it was for her. I usually leave the tips out at a very open and obvious spot. If you left it on the bed she may have thought that it fell out of your purse or something. I too leave $5.00 per day, but I leave it every day because the maids could change daily.

We also leave $5.00 per day per room. We will leave a 5 in the bedroom and another 5 in the parlor.

When we have the Villa suite, we will tip $5 for the room and a bit more for the parlor because it is so big and has the mini kitchen.

We also tip on a daily basis since the maids often change during our week there. Also, if you are tipping on a daily basis, your service gets better and better as the week goes on :teeth:

We left our tip on the table next to the door & with it we left the card that had been signed by the maid. They found it there ok.

As been said before I think when you left it on the bed they would be unsure it was for them.

We tipped $5 in the morning for housekeeping and put it on a pillow in the center of the bed.

We tipped another $5 in the evening for turndown service. Placed it the same way. . .except for once which will be in my trippie!

I feel cheap now.Only left 12bucks for our 4night stay @ RPR.They did a great job w/theire turndown service. The bed was made everynight, fresh towells etc.:sad2:

If you donn't want any sevice just hang the sign on the door. But kinda like having fresh lininens after along day in the parks.I'll make it up on our next RPR trip in Oct.

If you get a Hospitality Suite at PBH you might have Yolanda as your maid. I'd tip her and she always left me a thank you note with a lip stick kiss print on it. I let Paul LeClerc (manager) know about how she exceeded my expectations and Paul seemed real happy to hear that.

besides money, i also leave all my non opened eatables....

coke, bottled water, snacks, etc.

they always tell me they will take the food/beverage products anytime.

Couple of years ago when the Entertainment book had the misprint of the movie and meal deal, friends kept giving us their coupons from their books as we were having a family reunion down there. We turned in a bunch of the coupons for our huge party and got all our meal and movie tickets at one time. We used all the meal tickets, but didn't use any of the movie tickets, so we had approximately 35 movie tickets left. We left all those on the dining room table too. I hope some of the staff were able to have some nice movie nights out with their families.

I leave my tip in an envelope I print out at home before I go and I put the cash in it every pay day, by the time I leave for vacation, all my tip envelopes are filled and I just leave one a day on the pillow (leave them in the safe in the room). I have a print of clipart of either Spiderman or The Hulk and it reads on the outside "For Housekeeping" and then in Spanish "Para la Criada" just in case. I always have very good service. I do the same when I go to WDW, actually got the idea from the DIS boards. HTH :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Great idea. Will be doing this next vacca..

I tip $5 per day and occasionally a couple of bucks for the turndown maids.

I usually write on one of the HRH notepads "FOR THE MAID. THANKS", then put it next to the TV and put the money next to it. This note can then be used daily.

Usually we have quite a few dollars ($10+) worth of coins at the end of our stay, so I pop them into a HRH plastic cup and shove the note in there.

This has always worked well for us and the maids have always been very nice in return. One time we came back to the room and they left a few helium balloons with a note that said "for your children from xxxxxxx the maid." Simple things like this can really make your holiday.

We have also asked for extra coffee pods in the past and on our return to the room there was about a two weeks supply!

We always tip daily. $5.00 for day service and $2.00 for turndown. Tipping at the end of the stay may mean that the housekeeper who took care of you while you were there gets nothing.

Also, I always put it in a clear place (usually on the bathroom counter) with a note that says, "For housekeeping", so there is no confusion.

I sell Mary Kay and take a different gift for each night of our stay for the maids--the gifts cost me about $4 each but retail for $12. I usually receive exceptional room service after the initial night from most hotels. PBH staff was the only hotel who never took the gifts.

We figured it must be policy, so we started leaving money.

Some nights the money was gone--other nights, still there when we came back.

With airlines imposing so many regulations, we will save suitcase room from now on and leave money no matter where we go.

I will try the envelope suggestion for each night of our stay and pack it before we leave.

Recently came back from a bus trip and was told to leave $1 per person for maid service.

A few balloons?! Wow - how adorable!

I have had the housekeeping ignore the money once or twice as well, so now I try to put a few dollars (at a nice resort yes $5 a day is nice) with a note for them, so they know it's for them! More if I needed something, like the sheets changed once when both kids were sick, DD had gotten strep throat and I wanted to get rid of the germs as much as possible in the room. I called the housekeeper (at the Dolphin) and she came and took out all the dirty towels, changed the linens and I forget what else. Maybe DD had thrown up, but as I recall she did make it to the bathroom. The maid came late in the day for me, and also vacuumed, so I gave her $20. She really didn't want to take it but I insisted, she was so helpful!

Also, if I'm in the room when they bring the fridge, I try to have a couple of dollars ready to hand them. Or the rollaway.

Sounds like they are great at Universal - can't wait to find out tomorrow!

I just got back this Wednesday, 8/27 and stayed at HRH. I left on the bed pillow, an envelope with large print on front that said "Thank you Housekeeping" it was placed on the bureau. I called the Front Desk and was informed that housekeeping gratuities are included in the room fee and that is why it was returned to me. I did notice as we were leaving for the parks that the housekeeper on our floor was being trained by what looked like a supervisor, so I think that is why it was not accepted. I did leave it again the next day and it was also returned. This is the first time this happens to me. The tip was accepted by the mousekeeping @ CSR on our first side of our trip. HTH :thumbsup2

Hmmmm...is this something new? Anyone else with this experience?
