HOw much do you tip the valet parking attendants? do you tip when taking away, coming back, or both?
How much do you tip the concierge for simple information such as a recommendation on a restaurant or directions to an attraction?
thnks

I always tip the guy who brings back the car when you leave, usually $2 (more if it's really hot or raining). I hope that's the right thing to do!

I'd like to know the answer to tipping conceirge, since I didn't really know you should for simple things...

For valet, I usually do both -- $2 when they take the car, and $2 when I get it back. I never know if the guys pool their tips at the end of the night or if they keep what they get, so I figure it's more fair that way, since both guys are giving service.

For a concierge, it depends on what they're doing for you. If it's simple info, I generally don't tip at all -- that stuff should be at their fingertips, and that's what they get paid for. If I'm asking them to get me tickets to a sold out play, or to get me a reservation in a popular restaurant, then I'll tip accordingly.

I'd like to know this, too. I've never used valet parking, but DH and will be going to Niagara Falls and it seems our hotel forces you to use their valet services for $20/day. This just seems really steep to me, but again, I'm sort of out of the loop on this subject!

So should we still tip even though we will be forced to pay $100 to keep our car there for the week?

It is still customary to tip the valets as they are paid like a waitress...a reduced wage that is to be made up for by tips. Most valet services pool tips and do tip splits at the end of a shift.

My husband is a site manager for a hospitality based valet service. The average tip is $2 -$5 for unloading your bags and parking your vehicle and then again on the outbound for un-parking your vehicle and loading your bags. Usually $2 if they are only parking and not loading or unloading baggage and it seems like most people will add $1 for every bag you load or unload. That is the average of what he sees daily.

I have asked Disney valets many times if they pool tips. The answer has always been "No". Soooooo, I tip a buck or two at drop off AND pick-up.
