Two questions about tipping:

1. When using the valet, do you tip when they take your car and again when they bring it back, or just when they bring it back?

2. What is customary to tip the concierge? Never done concierge before, but will be staying at WL next week. I though I remembered someone saying they weren't permitted to take cash. If not, what do you give them?

Thanks,
Terri

Valet - I tip only when they bring the car back, not when they take it (I assume that is what the $6/day charge is for).

Concierge - they are not supposed to take cash tips, but there have been several threads about gifts to the concierge in lien of such tips. Try a search on this topic to see what you find.

1. I only tip on return of the car. It depends on what they are doing for me and how far they have to run to get my car. Minimum of $2.00.

2. The concierge staff is not supposed to accept tips. If you feel they have done something exceptional for you, you could give them a nice gift that the whole staff could share.

madalex - The $6.00 is the fee Disney charges to valet. Tipping is separate :)

Taylor1293 - I know. That's why I said that I tip when they bring my car back to me, but not when they take it away.

Oops sorry! i took this statement:

(I assume that is what the $6/day charge is for)

to mean that you thought the valet staff received part of this as their tip!

We give them a $5 bill coming and going. Either way...er, I mean, both ways.

1. Last time I picked up my car at the valet, I asked this exact question to the girl who gives the keys back to the valet to pick up the car. She said when she valet parks, she tips both dropping off her car as well as picking it up. Her thought is that it can't hurt to leave a couple dollars with her keys for whoever is taking care of her car. She also said the $6 goes to the hotel, not the valet.

2. I have only stayed on the concierge floor a couple times, but have always brought a gift from a local merchant to give to the concierge CMs. I usually try to make it some food items (jams, cheeses, etc.) that all the CM can share.

One of my former managers was a Bell Services manager... and she always said that you should tip both the person who parks the car, and the person who fetches the car. After all, both perform a service for you.

As for the $6 charge, that's a Disney charge, and I don't believe the valets see any of it.

I carry $2.00 bills with me when I travel just for tipping. I tip when dropping off and when picking up.

Hello! More tipping questions:
We will be staying at the Pop, if we use the luggage delivery service to the room do we tip, and if so when? When we give the luggage at the counter?
Also, what is a standard tip rate for Mousekeeping?
THANKS!
Lesley

At Pop Century I tipped when the bags were taken from the car and again when we were leaving when the bags were loaded back into the car. Since they deliver bags to the room and pick them back up without a person needing to be in the room, I never saw the delivery/pickup person.

For mousekeeping we left $1/day/person. Some people leave $2/day/person.

Do you HAVE to valet at the deluxes? Dh is very particular about our vehicles...picture the guy in the commercial going through his wife's closet to find the softest thing to wash his car with, ugh!!! Thanks a bunch!

Snoopymom,

We just stayed at the GF and self parked.

Dh is a do it himself kind of guy.

I had to be very firm about the luggage or he would have carried that to the room himself.......lol

Pop Century and the All-Stars have "Luggage Assistance" which is a bit different from "Bell Services" found at the Moderates and Deluxe resorts. Luggage Assistance is a non-tipped scheduled service, instead of an on-demand tipped service.

A few notable differences:

- Bell services is an on-demand service. You call, they come.
- Luggage Assistance is a scheduled service. Luggage runners get dispatched on the half hour to pick up and deliver luggage. For check-in, your luggage will be automatically delivered to your room within an hour of it becoming available... often in much less time. For check-out, we ask that you call the night before to schedule an appointment.

- With Bell Services, you need to be in the room for someone to pick up or drop off your luggage.
- With Luggage Assistance, you do not need to be in your room for luggage delivery or pick up.

- Bell Services is a tipped position.
- Luggage Assistance is not a tipped position. Tips are neither expected, nor neccessary. However, runners may accept tips.

Of course not... feel free to park yourself. However, just be prepared for a small distance in some cases. Most deluxes shouldn't be too bad, but I know the Boardwalk and Grand Floridian have a small walk.

I tip on both drop off and pick up but I believe that it is only customary to tip on the pick up end.

We have stayed concierge at the AKL twice and it is my understanding that you do not tip the staff in the lounge.

The $6 charge goes to Disney not to the valet.

It is customary to just tip on the pick up end but I find if I tip on the drop off also that somehow I seem to get my car quicker then others on the pick up. So I tip $2 on the drop off and pick up regardless of the fee the hotel/resort/eatery is charging.

I valet up here in Boston when I take clients to dinner and the Grill 23 charges $14 to valet not including tip and this is just for 2 or 3 hours while you have dinner.

This is a good idea. I have not seen $2 bills in a long time. Do you get them from your local bank?

General rule of thumb is you tip a dollar per bag to the person that brought your bags to your room.

If I have a late flight out and store our bags I tips the person a couple of dollars that gives us the claim tickets.

Mousekeeping is not officially a "tipped" position but you will fine that $1 per person in the room per day is usually the going rate.

But what do we tip the person who unloads our luggage from the car upon arrival, or the one who loads our luggage upon leaving the resort?

We will arrive via our own vehicle, valet park, have Bell Services remove our luggage from our van, and take our luggage to our room. So, given this scenario, who and how much is customary to tip? (I already know about mousekeeping tips during our stay and do plan to tip $5/day for the 3 of us.)

Also, for those of you who are frequent valet parkers, can you call valet before leaving your room so that your car is waiting when you come down, or is it required that you present yourself at the valet desk in order to request your car?

{As of now we're staying at POFQ (no valet), but I am hoping to switch to WL if rate codes come out.}
