Tipping Questions????

I'm from the UK where tipping is somewhat different as a concept and is slightly different as tips are an extra on top of a wage, not a contributing percentage, I worked as a waiter through my student years and it did help. that being said I was just wondering what would be considered a standard tip for the hotel maids per week?

We tip daily, not weekly because the maid may be different each day. We usually tip $3. We'll tip $5 if we ask her to change the sheets or the we've spilled some crackers or something and she has to vacuum. Some people tip $2 a bed. Some people don't tip. I wish places paid enough here that we don't have to tip. But that's not the case. So we tip.

We also tip the housekeeper daily, as it can be a different person each day.

^^This^^ We tip a certain amount every day and leave more on checkout day, since there's much more work to do. I used to tip once at the end of the stay, then realized that housekeepers changed, so started doing it daily. The amount is up to you. Please PM me if you would like to know how much we tip as I would prefer not to start a debate about this. Thanks.

We tip $1 per person, per day. So if we have 3 guests, we tip $3.00.

We tip daily. We tip $5 per day. I figure $1 for each of us occupying the room and $1 "for the pot" Also we ensure we get enough American $5 bills at the bank before we leave then we use envelopes and pre-make our "tip envelopes" for "mousekeeping" for each day. Then just leave one out every morning before we leave for the day. Beats carrying around a bunch of $1 bills or struggling morning of trying to scrounge up enough to leave.

You will be told that Mousekeeping is not a tipped position. I choose to tip wherever I am staying, not just Disney

Tipping your wait staff is important in the state, as they make a extremely low wage. 15% is considered standard for average service. Most people tip between 18-20% for good service.

WDW's policy is Housekeeping is not a "tipped" position. However, many people do leave a few dollars per day.

We tip 18 - 20+% FOR RESTAURANT TS, full service waitstaff. Less for a buffet - probably about 15 - 18%. Where the exact amount falls depends upon service.

Although housekeeping is not a tipped position at WDW, we tip a small amount daily per person ($2-$3 per day), with a little extra added if we have any requests. We tip extra $$ for any service "above and beyond".

I doubt anyone is offended by the question. I'm not sure I'd even call it controversial. People do have differing opinions, some strongly held, about tipping the housekeeping staff, but it's not an offensive subject.

Unlike restaurant wait staff here, housekeepers are paid a wage that does not expect tips to be a major component of their compensation. That's why Disney says it is not a "tipable" position. It is low pay, though.

Most CMs are not allowed to accept tips at all, and can be fired if they do so. "Tipable" positions such as wait staff, Bell Services, Valet parking, and private boat excursion captains, are exempt from that rule. Housekeeping seems to be the odd duck - a non-tipable position where the ban against accepting tips is ignored. So it's not expected - but allowed. Which leaves it solely up to the discretion of the Guest.

As you can tell from the responses above, people have differing ways of deciding if and how much. If there's any consensus around tipping housekeeping, it's that it should be done every day as the housekeepers may change day to day.

You will be told that Mousekeeping is not a tipped position.

And that is because it isn’t. They are not paid a lower amount assuming they’ll make it up in tips.

I do tip housekeeping. (It’s also not actually called mousekeeping fwiw) But I do it with the awareness that they aren’t expecting it.

And DO tip daily if you’re going to do it.


As for servers, I looked it up and FL “server minimum” is now “$5.23 per hour and earn at least $3.02 in tip credits.”

I am not sure, however, if WDW as an employer does this to their server CMs. I don’t find any TS server positions listed, but CS and host/hostess positions start at over $10. https://parksjobs.disneycareers.com...vice-part-time-walt-disney-world/1678/7421734

I find it fascinating how different states do their server pay. In my state we don’t have server minimum, for instance.

We are from the UK too and we tip housekeeping $5 per day (4 of us). We leave it under the little card with the maids name on thats usually in the bathroom. Restaurants we tip usually 20% and its easier to just circle the amount and charge it to our room. We also tip DME $5. Bell services $5. I have no issue tipping. On a side note i discussed this with friends we are going with and they were not on the side of tipping, it was very awkward when i mentioned tipping! Unfortunately we will be a party of 9 so 18% is not negotiable and they said they may tip housekeeping at the end but I'll mention to them about the maid changing.

What I struggle with is how much to tip for room service. The menus all say that gratuity is included, and I believe there is also a “delivery” charge (there is at most hotels), so I usually don’t tip. On the one hand, it seems unnecessary for someone who just sets down a tray and asks me to sign a receipt. On the other, I feel like it’s similar to dining in a restaurant (in the US) and not leaving a tip...it feels awkward to me. I’m never sure what to do.

I am with you on the Room service thing. Most hotels that I have used it include tip and often a delivery charge. I still am confused. I have even asked the person who has brought me food before and they did assure me that tip was already included. I have never ordered it at Disney though so am not aware of how they do things.

We often stay at the Swan where housekeeping tips equal extra bottles of water. I would tip them anyway, but in the long run it saves me money to be generous because they load me up on bottled water that I would buy if needed.

Yes, we got extra water and coffee every day and its definitely worth the tip! Thank you i will definitely mention this.

We tip at least $5.00 per day for Housekeeping.
If we ask for extra coffee, I add a couple of dollars.
