I understand that the recommended tipping amount for a restaurant server on a 4-day cruise is at least $14.75, per person, including children.

What if somone only has 2 meals served by the restuarant server during the trip (e.g., all other meals are consumed at Palo's, via room service. at buffets, etc.); should one still tip the entire minimum amount of $14.75 to the restaurant server?

Thanks!

Yes, you should still tip at least the recommended amount. The servers all work in different food service areas of the ship when they are not serving dinner, and they depend upon the tips as a huge portion of their income. They work hard and the service is generally excellent. :)

To further elaborate. You will not be asked to tip at any breakfasts or lunches (sit down or buffet) BUT you scheduled servers will be covering those shifts as well as the main dining shift. Your gratuity covers that server for the entire day of working the dining rooms/buffets. So even though you may have a 'different' server for breakfast or lunch -- 'someone' would be giving those servers their gratuity at the end of the trip. It is so much nicer knowing that you can just tip once and done at the end of the trip, rather than having to worry about who to tip throughout the trip.

I had a hard time grasping this whole tipping procedure. But once I completed my first cruise I never felt bad about handing over the suggested tip PLUS more!
:D
