Tipping question....

I have never tipped housekeeping but this last time we were soooo sick and ADA our housekeeper in POR was so great. I went on the last day to give her $10 and she was gone and no one knew who she was or anything. So if you do want to give them money, give it to them earlier rather then later sad1: :sad1:

One more thing on this, I'm going without my immediate family next year, just with my B/F, and I believe last time we were there, my Mum and Dad took care of all the tips.

Is it better for us to leave the $1 each day, or just put it all together at the end of the trip?

Might sound a silly question, but I'm just wanting to get it right!

Thanks

leave a $1.00 a day because there could be diferent housekeepers .

I occasionally tip. Like if I ask for extra towels, or whatnot. I never grew up knowing you were supposed to tip. But a few years back I learned that you "coluld" but not manditory. So I do, but not alot. I guess it's just not in my "system" yet to do it regularly. When at other hotels, I ahve left a few bucks at the end of the trip. On our disney trip I tipped a few bucks (there was 2 adults and a 2 YO) 3 of the four nights. Whne I did I had asked for something, and I tipped the last day saying thanks. My DH told me I left money behind, and I had to explain that you should leave a few dollars for the housekeeping. He never heard of it either. I wonder if it depends where you were raised? We went to alot of hotels as a kid, but my parents never tipped, and I don't think my mom still does and she travels for business all the time.

I sometimes forget if we head out in a rush so I leave more the next day - usually works out to $1 ea. per day. I either leave it on the bed or on the bathroom mirror / sink. I hate when I forget 'cuz I never know if we'll have the same person again the next day or not...

I don't even remember how I found out about tipping housekeeping as when I was growing up my parents had a camper & we always used that on vacation. I don't remember them ever taking us anywhere to stay in a hotel...even pulled that thing to FL for our first trip to the Magic Kingdom in 1973!! :goodvibes Anyway, yes we tip housekeeping as well as bell staff and bus drivers etc. for handling our bags ($1 per bag). I gotta stop over packing! :rotfl:

$1 per day per person here as well. If we have been especially messy or the trash is overflowing, I will leave more.

We also do the $1 per person each day. I bought the cutest Disney stickers this weekend at Hobby Lobby (they had ALL their acid free stickers on sale for 50% off!!) and I'll put them on some printed up envelopes for housekeeping.

I am not in the habit of tipping either. Unless we are especially messy, I'll leave a tip.
