Now this may sound like a dumb question......but can I leave tips for my room steward each day and tip our waiter (I forget what they actually call that person that serves you) each day ON TOP
if what we leave them at the end of the cruise? I was on a three day cruise once and our room steward/waiter were soo good and fun to be around that we tipped them personally once a day + left them nice tips at the end of the cruise.....
I just think it would be nice for them to get something each day...:)

I believe it is customary in the cruise industry to tip on the last evening of your voyage. However, I don't think that any of your wait staff would mind if you wanted to leave them an "on top" tip each day.

The only suggestion that I would make would be to let them know of your plans. Just let them know that you really want to show your appreciation by providing an extra tip for them each day.

Hope you have a great cruise!

That would be very nice of you to do, however, it isn't really going to make a difference for them. They have no where to spend it anyway so they aren't in desperate need of it! However you want to tip I am sure would be fine!

I'm sure your servers and stateroom host appreciate any tips that they get, but...

It's probably rather inconvenient for the servers and host to deal with cash on a daily basis. They have no use for cash on the ship, and they run the risk of losing cash or having it stolen. So I assume they would end up taking the cash to the crew purser on a daily basis for deposit to their accounts. It would be easier for them to deal with tips given in the customary way at the end of the cruise.

If you plan to leave something for your room steward each day, be sure that you either place it in an envelope with his name on it OR hand it to him personally. If you just leave it in the room, he won't touch it. Ditto for money just left on the table at dinner...they will track you down and return it to you. It is probably easier for the personnel to get it all at once rather than small amounts each day. Perhaps you'd like to consider a small gift (like a phone card) to give on a day other than the last night. Again, be sure to hand it to them personally.

i think that if you give them one VERY large tip at the end they will feel more appreciated than small ones along the way....even if the total is the same.....there is just something so pleasing about getting a large sum of money that makes them know they've been appreciated...

we gave very large tips because we felt they truly deserved every penny of it and we wanted them to know how much they had added to the enjoyment of our vacation....and we told them that when we gave them the tips (by the way, we gave them the tips in cash, rather than the receipt method)..

they of course, didn't look inside the envelopes the night we tipped them, but the next morning, for the last breakfast, they were obviously very pleased to have been appreciated....the head waiter (maitre d') went out of his way to stop my husband on his way out of the restaurant to thank him.....but it was we who had to thank him....he made our cruise for us....the tip was the only way we had to thank him for the wonderful job he did....
