If you ask for a refill for your soda mug at the bar, do you tip the bartender?

When the drink server comes around at a show/club, do you tip her for your refill on your mug?

If so, how much? I never know what's appropriate.

Thanks in advance.

I usually pickup two mugs for my DD's and tip $1 for refilling them. Since I usually purchase a beverage for myself, I tip accordingly for that also. I think 50 cents per soda refill is adequate for the waitstaff. If the girls go to the bars themselves for refills, then they do not tip.

Im sorry - but at $35 some of that money should be going towards the tips

50 cents per mug?? That is way more than 15%. I think I agree with the previous post. The mugs are priced well. I may change my mind, but right now I would say that I am not going to carry around pocket fulls of change to tip bartenders for pushing a button on the soda machine for a few seconds. Sorry, I may be cheap, but enough's enough (and too much can be nasty).

I agree. When you have the mug refilled you do not get a receipt on which to give a tip and I do not have pockets on my swim trunks for tip money. The tip should be included with the price.

Just to clarify here. I stated I usually order myself a drink when obtaining the refills on the soda mugs from the waitstaff. So I do have a receipt to put the tip on. I have never offered cash or change to a server as a tip on board, always signed it on the receipt. Perhaps that makes it a bit clearer.

Also, as I stated, if the girls get the refills at the bar, they do not tip. But it is my opinion that if I am on Castaway Cay, for example, and a server is walking in 90 degree heat back and forth to obtain our drinks from the bar, I will throw in a 50 cent tip for filling a soda mug for us too. If I did not think it was worth it, I would walk over and get it filled myself from the bartender.

Tipping is discretionary and some people may not tip at all whereas others may tip way above 15%. It is all up to the individual. If one was ordering a soda from the server, there would be 15% added automatically as a gratuity, and anything else above or beyond could be added on a separate line.

That makes sense to me. If the server actually brings the refill soda mug to me, then we would tip, but not at the bar. Definitely, in the nightclubs while watching the shows.

Thanks.

When we refilled the mugs(have brought our own the last time), I always tipped as that was the person serving who probably gets near zero from the initial cost of the mug anyhow. Especially when I was in the Internet cafe. :D
