We are taking an excursion and wondered if we need to tip the person? We booked it through Disney. We are going snorkeling in Nassau. Also, if we do tip, how much for five of us?

Thanks!

We always tip when going on an excursions...those people work very hard and really rely on their tips to supplement the very low wage (if any) that they make. We are also a family of 5, and if we feel the tour guide has provided an excellent experience would probably tip $25 and would adjust that lower if need be. Also don't forget to tip the bus driver, if you have one.

"The Passporter" guide book recommends tipping shore excursion guides $1-2/per person in your party. That would only be $2-4 for DH and I. Does that seem accurate?

A lot depends on the tour length, hours/half day/full day the effort made by the tour guide, small intimate bus or a large 30 seater, and your personal preference, I always tip a minimum of $1 per person for each of the tour guide and also the drive, so family of 4 for a small trip its say $4 > $5, I have tipped far higher when the tour guide has done far more for us, lots of information, easy to listen to, the odd gift even.

Some trips have different parts, IE a coach tour, a boat trip, a tour in a turtle park, etc, these may require tips for the providers in each of these sections,

I would say from personal observation, there is a high percentage of cruisers who do not tip and think its included,

In 2006 we went snorkeling in St. Thomas and the guy running the excursion told us up front how much we should tip and it was a LOT of money. Can't remember off hand the amount all I remember was my husand and I looking at each other thinking, "you have to be kidding me" We are a family of 6 and if I had to guess, I think they wanted something like 60.00 from us. we didn't even have that much cash on us. I think Disney should tell people to be prepared to tip on their excurions and how much.

If you booked this through Disney, then you should have complained. I think $60 is way excessive for tips.

There is no way I would have handed over $60.00. In fact, that would have just pissed me off enough to tip much much less.

We tip based on the service received just like we do in a restaurant. We did not feel that the Seahorse Catamaran crew was anything special at CC (in fact we thought they were awful) and did not tip them at all, which is not like us. We did the dolphin swim (booked direct) at Blue Lagoon in Nassau and thought our trainers were AWESOME. So we tipped them an extra $5 from each of us to split. We debated on $5 for each of them but then thought no, they were THAT good that they should get $5 FROM each of us. It totally depends on if they did anything to make our excursion more enjoyable for us. I don't just automatically dish it out. They need to be helpful, informative and friendly. They don't get it just because they expect it. It is a gratuity and IMO should be given based on your own personal experience, but in general we DO tip on an excursion and we decide how much based on how we enjoyed it. I agree that $60 would be an excessive amount to give for a family of 6.

We tip on service and length of tour. We did a 3 hr excursion at St Thomas and for 5 of us we tipped them $20. Don't know if that was high or low, but that seemed to be about the norm of what others were tipping.
