I am one of those rare people that would prefer not to have maid service daily and will request to not have it and before you go eeewww i'll be solo and tend to use towels twice(most hotels give you 4 bath towel) and I will not be staying at any hotel longer than 4 days. So this is my question would you leave a tip or not and if so how much?

We always leave $2 every day and some how it always pays dividends. ::MickeyMo

I hazard to guess that by "dividends" sugarmouse means towel animals. Unfortunately, tipping doesn't mean you'll definitely get them. It depends on how your maid is (if she knows how to make them) and how much time they have. On our honeymoon trip at POR we tipped $3 a night and got no towel animals, and on our last trip to Pop we didn't tip at all and got two animals on our second night! I'd say that if you don't need the service just request that they skip you, and don't worry about tipping at all.

Well, since tipping is for something the housekeeper has already done, you should tip for the first day since they got the room ready for you (assuming everything is clean and nice). Just leave the do not disturb sign on your door. They might even leave extra towels for you outside anyway.

I tipped 5.00 a day at POR this past week. No animal towels or anything...lol. I don't even know that it was worth it (our room wasn't super clean, but there were 5 of us in the room and hard to clean around...I tried to straighten up every am before we left). I didn't stop leaving the tips because once I started, I felt a little bad.

I don't mean to sound rude, but how can you be sure the housekeeper who cleaned your room today (and maybe did a fantastic job worthy of a tip) will be the same person tomorrow and will be the one who actually receives the tip? It's not the same as leaving a tip after a sit-down meal, soooo....

(and no, we're not tightwads -- we always tip the 15%-20% standard for a meal, but whether the server gets the 15% minimum or more than 20% does depend on the service we receive):duck:

Tipping is a very personal thing - each person/family is totally different. Dh & I personally tip $5 per day at WDW - just what we do. I have had trips both with and without getting the towel animals - I don't mind either way as long as we have a basically clean room and plenty of towels, I'm happy.

I'd like to tip every day, but I'm not sure how and where to leave it. Do you just leave a few bucks somewhere obvious? Or are there envelopes?

I used to leave the tip at the end of my stay because when I left it out no one took it..of course that was also a good thing because they were honest and had no way of knowing it was for them!

This time, after reading several posts here on tipping I printed out evelopes (if I can do it anyone can!!) and will leave it on a pillow or tucked in a mirror - someplace she'll be sure to find it...and I like that it is printed (althihg very tiny) in English and Spanish on the evelope.

Here's the link- cute and fun!!

We usually tip at $5 a day for the three of us. I used the cute Thank-you Mousekeeping envelopes. I put a $5 bill in each one before we even left home. That way I didn't have to worry about finding the money, especially toward the end of our stay!!! Always left it on the vanity. As far as not knowing who is getting it each day...I figure that it all evens out. We don't really care about those towel animals. Just clean up my bathroom and make my beds and I'm a happy camper.

I do have to say that staying at BWV on points was kinda nice. I didn't have to worry about housekeeping coming in every day. Just neatened the bed, tidied the vanity and we were set to go.
