Tipping mousekeeping question?

Do you tip mousekeeping once at the end of your trip, or throughout? How much is standard? Who else do you tip throughout your stay (we're staying at POR), bellboys, airport transportation obviously...who else? Thanks!

Amy

FIRST trip to WDW in Dec. 06 at POR!

We leave a daily tip in an envelope in an obvious place marked for housekeeping so there is no misunderstanding about it. I believe about $2 per day is normal unless you make a real mess! If you leave it at the end you won't know if your regular housekeeper got it since they can't be working seven days a week. As you said, the bell people get tipped. If you use valet parking I believe they should be tipped also. I can't think of anyone else outside of the wait staff at the restaurants.

oh no!!! I hope this thread doesn't turn into a huge tipping debate like one did a couple weeks ago... You will probably get a lot of people posting "Mousekeeping is not a tipped position and we don't tip".

Personally, I tip every day like the above poster and $2 is about what I tip as well.

Have fun!

There really isn't any reason to have a debate. Housekeeping is not a tipped position at WDW. Not tipping housekeeping is not the same as stiffing a waiter or bellhop. The standard tip, where housekeeping is "tipped" is $1-$2/day/guest. The majority of guests don't tip.

If you decide to tip, for whatever reason, you should tip on a daily basis. It wouldn't make sense if you left a tip for the week on the last day not knowing the housekeeper you had the rest of your stay was off.

Yikes - we leave $5.00 a day for mousekeeping. $3.00 for am $2.00 for pm. Well.... the mousekeepers are really nice.

WOW....I actually made up little thank you baskets for mousekeeping with $2.00 on top of it too. I guess it's all in my opinion to tip or not to tip, but our family WILL be tipping as a thank you.

I don't mean to stir up problems. I had no idea tipping mousekeeping was a hot debate. I don't tip housekeeping on trip as a rule, but thought maybe the norm was different in WDW, since we've never been. Just trying to figure things out!

Not to get into the debate as to if you should tip or not.....

But to answer the OP - if you do tip, definitely leave a tip daily, instead of all at once. You can not assume that the same people are cleaning your room everyday.

If you wait till the end of your stay, and you might wind up leaving a tip for a mousekeeper who only worked that one day.

We had read that "mousekeeping" left little special touches in the rooms and we found this to be true! We also had read that many guests tipped either a dollar a bed per day, or a dollar per person staying in each room per day. We had adjoining rooms so usually left 4-6 dollars total each day. We were aware that the housekeepers may change each day, so we tipped in all one dollar bills (easy to divide), and we tipped each day and not at the end of our stay. We will be tipping again on our stay next summer. :earsboy:

We tip mousekeeping every day.

We tip $3.00 for 2 very neat adults.

Bellboys, $1 per bag

We tip $1/day per person daily. It really is your choice, as previous posters have mentioned, housekeeping is not a tipped position.

I make up envelopes before we go with Disney stickers on them. If we need extra towels, etc. I leave a note on the envelope along with a "Thank you".

We tip daily, usually 2-3 $

A horrible(but true) story from a friend----
They were on vacation (not WDW) and planned to tip at the end of their stay instead of daily. The housekeeping staff must have thought they weren't going to get a tip . My friend had left her camera in the room the last day. When she got home and developed her pictures, there was a picture of the maid doing something truely abhorrent with my friends tooth brush ( which , unknowingly , she had been using ).

Since then we make sure we tip daily---and hide our toothbrushes!

Did your friend do anything about this?!

Yes, we tip every day, at least $1 per person on most days. You don't get the same housekeeper every day, so it's best to tip daily, even if it's just a few dollars.

Actually you have it reversed. Housekeeping isn't a "tipped" position at WDW but is at most other resorts.

Nothing wrong with tipping if you get great service, need extra towels, get towel animals or just feel like doing a good deed.

It's just not accurate to put tipping housekeeping, at WDW, in the same category as tipping waiters, bellhops and valets.

We tip all hotels housekeepers $5 a day. It doesn't matter if we are at WDW for 14 days or at the Hampton Inn for one night. We tip!

We tip skycaps, towncar/limo drivers and bellhops. None of them do the work that housekeeping does. I would feel bad not tipping them, even though it may not be an official tipped position. It just doesn't 'feel right' to me to not tip these hard working people. We leave $5 a day for our family. I can live with that. :)

we leave 2 dollara a day in a envelope and because we go at christmas we always leave a candy canyon top. :

Marvin12,

After reading your first post, I checked to see where you are from. I had never heard of a candy canyon before. You should have left us all wondering what that was!!

As for the maid taking a picture of herself, I can't believe anyone would be that stupid. All the guest would need to do was send that picture to the resort management and the housekeeper would have lost her job. Sounds like a pretty far fetched story - sorry to the OP.
