My friend just came back from their trip and she said the one unexpected thing was the tipping on the sit-down meals on the dining plan? I thought gratuity was included with the dining plan? I was counting that into the equation for the value of the plan. She even said that at a couple of restaurants there was a separate paper showing what the proper tip should be. Anyone experience this? Isn't gratuity included and if we want we can leave something extra?

The gratuity is included. After they swipe your card you get a reciept to sign that gives the itemized total including an entry for gratuity. At that point you can leave some extra cash if you want to tip more. Maybe your friend was confused and thought that the calculated gratuity was what she should leave??

Tip is included in the plan but they put these little cards in with the bill saying it does not include tip and what your "SHOULD" tip for the meal. :earseek: I never left extra at any resturant that "left" these cards in the bill when we were paying with the dining plan. Also they "leave" these in there when you order extras not included in the dining an have already added on 18% tip in most cases. :sad2: :sad2: Please read your receipt nd not any other paper "left" in the billfold.

I believe those cards are in all the folders, whether you're on the dining plan or paying out of pocket. While I generally did tip a little extra, I was aware all along that the gratuity IS covered in the dining plan. So is the tax.

Tips are included in the dining plan. :Pinkbounc

No the cards were only left in 2 of the folders at the 9 places we dined.

At all TS restuarants, when eating on the dining plan, the receipt you sign will state gratuities are included. If you order something that is not on the dining plan, they will also automatically add gratuities to that charge.

Yes...Tips are included in the TS/CS credits on the MYW dinning plan. :teeth: At all the places we dinned at we NEVER came across those "cards" showing what should be tipped.

Tipping is included and the amount of tip will show on your receipt as well as the number of remaing table service credits.

Tip is included, but remember that all servers are taxed on that amount and don't get it immediately but later in their check, so they really don't even make as much as is listed on the receipt. Because of that, many are tipping above directly to the server so they actually see some of that money like "regular" waiters and waitresses do.

I'm sorry your friend was made to think that none was included! That is frustrating!

So, they are then treated like most other people working for a large corporation. They get a paycheque with taxes withheld... and can't underestimate their income for tax purposes.

Yes they are taxed on this tip but they also either make zero per hour or as little as 2.00 per hour.

When we received excellent service this past Sept I added an extra 5% to our bill. There were 6 of us 5 adults and 1 child on the plan then. My hubby and I have the plan for Feb and we will again add to the tip if we receive excellent service.

I tipped a little extra when I recieved excellent service....Which was just about every table service meal we had in October....I left a very good "extra"
tip at Wolfgang Puck Cafe....that young man was extraordinary!! I don't mind leaving a little extra when those kids work their behinds off to see that we are taken care of! :flower:

Our group of ten just came back. Tip is included. We asked several servers to make sure they got a decent tip. Some restaurants the servers got a flat 15% tip. Other places, Le Cellier and 50's Prime Time I remember for sure that the receipt showed an 18% tip. That may be because groups of 8 or more the tip is 18% automatically at some places. We tipped an extra $20 at several places when the service was good. Most places our receipt showed the servers getting a $50 tip on our large group. At some places they basically forced dessert on us even when we didn't want it....wrapped it up to go...dh figures it was to make their tip larger. At Concourse Steakhouse the server insisted we had to take the desert, it ended up being thrown out when we checked out :confused3
