We arrive tomorrow at the DLH for 6 nights and I was wondering how much and when do you tip housekeeping?

It depends on how many people you have in your room. I think the general consensus is $1 per person per day. I usually take thank you cards with me and address the envelope to housekeeping and leave $5 each day when we leave for the day, although there's rarely more than 3 of us. Often you have a different housekeeper each day, so if you wait until the end of the trip only one will receive it.

Tip everyday because you may not get the same person. I always tip $1 for clean people, $2 for messy people. My mom and I are very clean people, so we tipped $2 a day. My brother and his family always had a room that looked like a tornado hit it due to a 4 year old. He tipped $1 each for him, his wife, and a 2 month old, and $2 for the 4 year old for a total of $5 a night. We also tip more on the 4th day when they change the sheets.

Also tip more if you make a special request. There was one night when my niece had an accident, so the sheets had to be changed. He tipped $10 that day.

We are a family of 3. We always pre-pack $5 per day in an envelope and label it for housekeeping. We leave it on the bed in the morning.

We are a somewhat messy crew when on vacation.

We tip $3 to $5 per bed that has to be made. We leave the tips on the pillows as we depart each morning. The room is usually all clean by the time we come back (2pmish) for our midday break. Those hotel cleaning ladies work hard, and I am more than happy to tip them.

We also tip $1 a day per person, unless we have alot of trash or something and we then tip more. Last week we went to the Halloween party and had so much candy, so we were also leaving them candy with their tip at the GCH. I think they liked it as we got extra soaps and stuff from them. We also left candy for the turn down service, thought it was cute to leave her candy since she was leaving us candy. haha

I am VERY clean when I stay in hotels (I line the trash cans with grocery bags for my trash, I fold the dirty towels and leave them in a neat pile on the bathroom floor, I don't leave a single thing out in the room that housekeeping has to clean around, etc) and I leave $10 each morning for two people.

We never tip because we always have our DND sign up. DH doesn't allow anyone in our room once we arrive. Go figure :-/

...leave $10 a day...our room is usually very tidy. We used to do less, until we realized we were tipping wait staff significantly more, for brief encounters. Cleaning staff clean our bathrooms!!

Following this thread with interest as we don't tip here in Australia so it is abit confusing for us.

I was thinking as it would be just myself and DD, of leaving $5 each day. Is this enough?

We used to tip $5 day but then realized hat isnt really keeping up wh the rising cost of living. We now do $5 day if its just two of us and when its all 4 of us we do $2 per person per day. On our last day we double it as we usually are leaving behind much trash. One other thing we do is always leave a note each day with tip stating its a tip. We had a trip to wdw one year and they never took the tip and we couldnt figure out why. When we checked out we mentioned it to the front desk. They explained that if it is not fully certain that money left out is for tip the mousekeepers will not take it. We asked the front desk to find out who cleaned r room and we subsequently got the weeks tip to them

We leave $5 a day. If I have any extra requests, or if I don't tidy up first, then I leave more. I'll also leave a couple of dollars for turn down service.
