Tipping Housekeeping at DVC

Staying for cash, our family of 3 usually leaves $5 daily for housekeeping. However, we're unclear on protocol for DVC where they don't come daily. How would you handle tipping for:
  • A 4-night stay (where housekeeping comes at the end of your stay)
  • A 1-week stay (where housekeeping comes during and at the end of your stay)

:)I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe if you are staying for cash (not DVC points) then you will receive daily maid service. Depending on how many are staying in the room (or how messy we leave it;)) we usually leave $1 per person or a max of $5 per day.

If you are staying with DVC points, then you receive trash/towel service on the 4th day. As DVC members I usually leave a $10 tip on that day and then another $10 when we check out.

Enjoy your vacation!

With a 1-week stay you would still have housekeeping on Day 4 but nothing more. You'd need to be staying 8 days or more before getting a full clean on Day 4 and a trash/tidy on day 8. We also leave a tip on each service day and again when we leave.

Mousekeeping is not considered a tipped position. We tip for exceptional service, not because others do. If I have a Cast Member who really goes out of their way to make our day magical, I will try and give them a tip. Some will accept it others won't.

I generally tip $2 for Towel and Trash day for dropping off fresh towels. I usually tip $5 for a full cleaning -- Studio. We generally stay for 12 nights in May, so it includes 2 full cleanings and 1 T&T day.

We have had 2 trips on cash with the DVC member discount and the mousekeeping works the same as on points which is how I prefer it anyway. Still Trash & Towel on day 4 & a full cleaning at 8 days.

As with any gratuity it is a personal decision. We use studios. I think we left $3 last time for our T & T day (family of 3 - all they had to do was empty 2 trash cans & put out a clean set of towels for each of us - NOT a big deal in my book). I think I left $5 at check-out...but I had dumped the crumbs out of the toaster, collected all the trash in one spot, washed the coffee pot & stripped the sheets off the beds & piled up the dirty towels etc. etc.

Nope, other way around. Full cleaning on day 4 and trash and towels on day 8 for stays 8 nights or more. If you are there 7 nights or less, trash and towels on day 4. Trash and towels means just that. You get clean towels and they remove the trash (and you get refreshed bathroom supplies).

:confused3 We've never had more that T & T on day 4 (regardless of staying on points or cash). They sometimes refresh the toiletries on T & T too in my experience. Maybe it depends where you stay. Like we've always had the sofa beds made up when we got there EXCEPT at SSR. Which for some reason they refuse to do them. Don't know why they're the exception to the rule...

:confused3 We're just back from stays at SSR and BLT. We had T&T ONLY on day 4 at both places. There's even a sign on the table in each room explaining that T&T is day 4 and full cleaning after 7 nights.

You have to stay at least eight nights to get a full cleaning. If you only stay seven nights, no full cleaning, only trash and towels on day 4. There really isn't much point to doing a full cleaning on day 8 if you are only staying 9 days. That's why they do the full cleaning on day 4 with trash and towels on day 8 if you are staying at least eight nights (meaning nine days).

That's what the tent card on the counter says. Not that you get a full cleaning on day 8 with stays of eight nights or more.

You didn't stay eight nights at either of the two resorts (was it four at SSR and six at BLT??). That's why you didn't get a full cleaning. That only happens for stays of eight nights or more at a single resort in a single villa. And it happens on day 4.

What Deb & Bill is* saying is true - if you are staying 8 nights or more, they don't make you wait until 8 nights into your trip to get a full cleaning.

*It's a puzzle to figure out appropriate subject verb agreement for one username (and one person posting this information, I assume) when the username has 2 names within it. ;)

"Deb & Bill" is one poster, so feel free to use singular. ;)

It is comforting to know that there are still a few people who worry about proper use of our wonderful language! :goodvibes

Oh! That explains why we had only T&T on day 4 at both places! Thanks for explaining that. It makes much more sense now. :goodvibes
