We came back yesterday and enjoyed the Polynesian very much. Earline was our housekeeper the entire time and did a fabulous job. No towel animals or tricks, but a very clean, well stocked, comfortable room each afternoon. Turn down service was offered each evening but we rarely used it as we were in bed (or the 2yo was) rather early.
Trekker, you are quite right about the other minimum wage positions and your post made me think. I believe part of the difference for us is "face time". We never actually met Earline until the day we were leaving and I saw her (nametag) in the hall. I know it is not the same, but when I am interacting with the popcorn guy I can smile, ask how he is and thank him for his hard work. I felt that the tip we left Earline, with our "thanks" on the envelope was our only "face time" in her case. Make sense? I know it doesn't help the others' wallet, but in my mind it balances.
