Tipping help please - and differences between UK & USA

I'm using mousekeeping envelopes and we are not on site.

Great way for the maids to know we haven't left the money lying around.

UK Saint, the reason we recommend tipping on a daily basis is to ensure that the person who cleaned your room gets the tip - it might be that they do it for so many mornings and then their shift changes and then another person cleans your room.

If you leave it all in one lump on the last day, it is possible that someone else may get the tip you left for the person who cleaned your room!

A long time ago, we had someone from Disney housekeeping post on the DIS and she said that they were extremely grateful for the tips that were left and that it didn't matter how much or little it was, they were just so grateful. I wish I could link ot the post but it went in a crash.

I just place the money in a prominent postion (on table or bed) and write in caps on a piece of paper - Housekeeping - please take!

I agree, if you tip daily - you can ensure the person who does your room that day gets tipped. It will put her in a good mood and will probably end up doing a better job just because she is in a good mood and realises she is appreciated. I wouldn't like to think she will do a better job just because she has been given money but because she knows she is appreciated. That's why I tip - because it shows you appreciate their work.

Their pay is pretty pathetic.
