Please forgive me, but what is the protocol for tipping when you dine at a buffet. We definitely leave a tip especially when they clear your table & bring drinks. Just didn't know if there was a standard for this.

Thanks

We always leave the same type of tip we would at a regular resaurant if they serve us drinks & clear plates, etc. That said, if the service is poor we leave just the 10%, but more often we leave 15 to 20 percent.

We pretty much leave the same amount too....depending on the service of course.

Be carefull some buffets add a tip automatically.

I have heard that $1 per person is what one should leave for a buffet. Of course this can be (should be) adjusted depending on the level of service.

Are tips automatically added for small parties? I thought it was only larger ones?

We've never had a tip added to the bill for any buffet at WDW or anywhere else. We are not a large party so maybe they do differently for that. We tip the same whether it is buffet or not.

We usually tip the normal 15-20%

According to a tip guide I have, 10% (for good service) is all that's expected at a serve-yourself buffet.

Guess it all depends on how good the service is or how cute the waiter is ;)

I am deffiently more knowledgable about Disneyland then WDW. But I do know for a fact that Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel auto adds the tip, even for small parties. We were a family of 3 (1 adult, 2 kids) and they did indeed add the tip when we paid (before the meal).

I assumed that WDW might do the same.

We were in Disney last December and noted that there was actually a little card in the book that held our bill. The card said basically that although it was a buffet the customary tip is still 15%. I noticed these in all the places we dined that were buffet. I especially appreciated it since I worked buffet and tips were all we lived on. It was not hard but very busy work and we took more plates and filled more drinks there than any full service I ever worked. Of course it is all a personal thing but I still tip 15-20% for buffet. If the service is horrible I still leave a fair tip but I have been known to ask to speak to a manger:-) Don't have any idea if they are still placing them in the books or not.

Thanks for all of your replies. We have always tipped the customary 15-20% but I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks again.
