I just thought I would ask for suggestions on how much you should tip. When we stayed at the GF and we pull up, I pay the valet $2 to park the car. Then the bellman takes the luggage to the room and I pay about $4 or $5 depending on how many bags, usually $1 per bag. Then when we leave, the valet pulls up with my car and I pay him $2 and then another guy loads my luggage in the car and I pay him $2. Is this amount about what everyone else pays? Sometimes I am not sure how much to tip and then I see some people that don't tip the guys anything at all. Just curious to hear others experiences with this. Thanks. :cool1:

We do what you do. Just keep your wallet handy and open at all times, lol :rotfl2:

I look at it as part of the vacation expense.

If $2 "each way" is the appropriate tip for a valet, I now understand why DW never wants to use the the valet parking(we do the "park & hike").

If i was going to stay at GF, could i use the resort parking, and then roll my suitcase to the check-in from the parking lot, our would they think im odd?.

The reason why i ask, is, that im a regular type of guy who loves to stay at top resorts. Im used to do everything myself, and i feel out of place when someone is doing things, like taking my suitcase inside, when i can do it myself.

Maybe its just me!

You should probably be tipping the valet $2 and then a dollar a bag for the bellman that's loading your car. He's doing far more work than just pulling up your car.

Maybe you didnt understand what i was saying, i would like to park my car myself, walk from the car at the parkinglot with my suitcase (i only got 1) to the check-in inside the hotel.

Its not about money (if it was, i would not stay at GF), i just feel out of place, when people are doing things like taking my suitcase out of my car. Valet parking my car (have never tried valet before in my entire life).

I would rather leave the money for the bellman at the check-in desk, without him having to do any work for me at all.

Could i do that?, or would they think im odd ?

Sure you can just park in self parking and unload your own bag. That's no problem.

i used valet for my entire stay in sep 2004 at the WL
i tipped 2 every a.m. when i took out teh car and 2 when i brought it back

I see you are ex-Navy. Now it makes sense. DH is former AD Army and now part-time National Guard. He is a DIY kind of guy, too. :cool1: I have to force him to use valet and he always takes care of our bags. This vacation, though, I am going to insist that he let someone else do the work. :goodvibes I know it is hard for you type of guys, but maybe you could take a break. :)

I also do the $2 in and $2 out for the valet parker, each time I give them the car or take it out.
$5 to unload the luggage from the car and $5 to $10 to load the luggage into the car, depending on amount of luggage.
And $10 to the bellhop who takes us to our room and $10 to the one who takes us from the room.

if the same person unloads the car and takes us to the room (as happened with the AKL concierge) i give him the combination (e.g., $15).
