Tipping for Kids Counselors ?

I read that the kid's club counselors aren't supposed to accept cash. Is that true ? Anyone have suggestions for a gift instead ? I'm hoping my kids spend lots of time in the club and I want to do something to thank the counselers.

The counsellors are not a "tipped" position. There are various threads on accepting cash. If you want to do it, put it in an envelope with one person's name on it. The phone cards were popular, but as many have cell phones, this isn't such a good thing any more.

Some people do gift cards to Target and Walmart--where the crew bus will take them on their port time. They have vey little off time. Unless you put something in an envelope addressed to a specific individual, the cards, etc. are used as prizes at the crew parties that are thrown with the money tips given to the counsellors in general.

Some other ideas....they love candy and treats. They normally can't eat the same food we do, so if you happen to get an extra dessert and it happens to get delivered to a late night cast member in the club or lab.....

I used to ask DD if there were one or 2 counsellors who made her time special--send them a thank you note with whatever you decide to do. Also, be sure to name them on your evaluation and/or write a note to DCL afterwards. A note in an employment file goes a long way......

When DD was a counselor she said a lollipop with a handwritten note was special or a box of chocolates that could be shared with the team.

I think an excellent way to prepare for the cruise is to have your kids make hand made thank you notes for the counselors. Helps them prepare to have fun.

Also if you want to give something such as a gift card to the counselor that "made your child's trip special" talk to your child in your cabin first. The Navigator has pictures of all the counselors for each cruise with their names. DD said it was sad when she saw children come in the club the last day with what appeared to be instructions to "give this to your favorite counselor" and she could tell the children were looking for someone who wasn't on duty at the time.

I would also second mentioning outstanding counselors BY NAME in your evaluation. When that happens they are recognized by the whole team.
