I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, but search isn't working, so here it is again:

We're getting new living room furniture delivered tomorrow (it will arrive anytime between 7am and 9pm  ), and I'm wondering if I'm supposed to tip these guys?

I have never tipped a furniture delivery person and have never heard of anyone doing it either, unless its a DIS person. I just had furniture delivered last week. The guys doing it never acted as though they expected to be tipped either, so I think this might be a DIS legend or perhaps a regional thing.

Not sure if it is common but I have tipped these guys in the past. Probably because I have worked in the service industry in the past and generally am a decent tipper. Sure they probably get paid by the hour but I fugure throwing them a bone wouldn't hurt. JMHO

Uh-oh. One for, one against.

I need some tie-breakers.

Totally regional in my opinion. Many companies do not allow the delivery staff to accept tips.

I generally do not tip, but I tipped (a lot) to a guy from UPS who brought up 16 enormous boxes (sixth floor). I had ordered 4 leather chairs and there were 4 boxes per chair.

I appreciate anyone in New Orleans who does anything these days.

I remember a recent thread and I do think it varies regionally.

I usually give $5 or $10 tip depending on the job ("here, have lunch on me") or I just offer a cold drink.

We tipped some recently and we tipped them more than usual since they took our old stuff downstairs before bringing in the new.

Would have tipped them otherwise though. It's tough getting things in our house. Lots of stairs and turns.

We just had two leather coaches delivered and my dh tipped them. I'm glad he tipped them but I did  at the amount he tipped. (too much)

We had furniture delivered last week. We planned to tip them, but they showed up earlier than the time expected and I wasn't back from shopping with the money, so they got squat. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to tip them anyway, considering what we were charged for a delivery fee. :confused3

Honestly, I think the delivery fee covers it.
We bought a bed, the store wanted $100 to deliver it, their warehouse was less than 5 miles away, so we just picked it up ourselves. We did give the guy who pulled it out and helped get it in our car a tip. If I had paid the $100 delivery fee, I would not have tipped.

Thanks for the replies. I did pay a $100 delivery fee... I'm leaning towards not tipping, but maybe I will if they do a really great job.

I just had furniture delivered this morning, and I didn't tip and they didn't stand around acting like they expected one. I paid a $100 delivery fee, so it's not like the service was provided as a courtesy.
