We tend to tip about 10 - 15% in restaurants dependent on service. 1 euro per bag and on room service, a couple of Euro (unless there's a service charge already attached to RS, I can't remember as I stay in a lot of hotels).

I always tip about 10% for meal as I always carry my own bags (its quicker for me), although it is not customary to tip in France.

It is customary to tip in bars and restaurants in France. Its the UK that does not have the custom.

In table service restaurants 10 - 15% dependant on the waiter.
In hotels we would normally leave €1 per bag.
While at Davy Crocket Ranch we left an envelope with €1 per person (€5) each time we called housekeeping :)
