Concerning the towel animals, Mousekeepers are not given official lessons by Disney on how to make these, it's something they pick up from each other. Mousekeeping gets a big turn over of staff, mostly because few people realise how physically demanding the job is. It's generally only those who have been doing the job a longtime have the knowledge and time to make the animals. Most of the newer recruits, even if they learn how to make the animals, are kept too busy in making sure the rooms are clean. Mousekeepers have to work to a schedule, the job would be a lot easier if every guest had left their rooms by 8.30 when mousekeepers start their shift, but obviously, people are on vacation and, understandably, many people like to enjoy a lie in while away. However for the people cleaning the rooms if they are unfortunate enough to have 18 rooms, few or none of whom get out of the rooms before 11.00 it makes it almost impossible to get through their required cleaning duties, let alone have time for making cute displays or towel animals. I'm pretty certain most of the mousekeepers would much rather have an extra 10 minutes per room to be able to make those special little touches, but Disney keeps them on a pretty tight schedule.
I know some hotels do leave stationary in the rooms, but I'm not sure if this is widespread on Disney. If there isn't an envelope in the room and I've forgotten to bring some with me I'd usually use the note paper that is supplied to leave the money wrapped in a small note so mousekeepers know it's for them. It puts the mousekeepers in a slight dilema if they see $5 tucked under the phone, ice bucket or similar. The vast majority of the time they know that the money is meant as a tip for them, but they can't be 100% sure and there are some people who are very quick to accuse mousekeeping of taking almost anything that goes missing. Faced with the choice of being accused of theft or leaving money that was intended for them often they will leave the money where it lies.
The tips are always very much appreciated, if you're one of those that doesn't get any special "treats" this will never be because you failed to tip, are messy or disliked it's much more likely that your mousekeeper is either too busy to have the time to make those little gestures, or doesn't have the knowledge of how to make the towel animals.
