We are going for our first trip to DLP in September. I remember from our Italy ABD that tips were included in the restaurant bill. Is this true IN DLP as well?

Thanks for the help!!!

Yep. No need to tip. :)

It feels wrong but 17% is included in the prices you pay anyway.

I'll 2nd Torsie in the no tipping - There's actually 22% total tax and service so do not feel guilty ever and don't listen to any waiter who says servic(tips) aren't included as it's incorrect ;)

Is tipping included all over France or just DLP?

I have been to France many times, and have occasionally encountered a waiter who insists that you have to tip. It's not true.

Just a little clarification on this. You need to check the bill. If it says SERVICE CHARGE INCLUDED, SERVICE COMPRIS in French language it means tips are included. If there is no mention of service charge then tips are not included. Unlike in America,in Europe waiting staff do not rely on tips to make up their wages. Tipping is optional and you can even refuse to pay the service charge if it has been added to your bill if you are not happy with the service you have received. If there is no service charge, you are not obligated to tip, it is very normal to just pay the exact cost of the meal. I have worked as a waiting staff so I always tip but its never as much as I do when I am in America. For example, if a bill comes to €17.50 I would round it up to €20.

This is a great article which explain is well http://gofrance.about.com/od/travelplanning/a/tippinginfrance.htm

Service Compris has been added onto all bills in France since the late 80's - Anyone who gives you a bill where it says it isn't can be and should be reported for fraud

I would also like to see anyone try and get the service removed from their bill in France if they aren't happy as it's not going to happen.

I've been here 30 years and remember the old days/ways where it wasn't included and you used to leave 12% and when it came into force that it was included along with vat - we are now already leaving 22% so you don't leave any more
