I'm trying to get all my $$$ in order...what should I plan to set aside for tipping our adventure guides?

The booklet you get should say--they give examples for a family of four, per guide etc, and a range. We have always loved our guides so tend to tip at the high end of the range or even beyond (we have had instances where the guides went well above and beyond to help us arrange a side trip etc). I used to bring travelers checks for that purpose, but that is no longer encouraged--so US currency (and/or currency for the Country you'll be in if not the US) is preferred. Small envelopes are usually provided--although sometimes not (or I couldn't find them), so I always bring extra small envelopes and others have brought nice thank you cards to stick the cash in.

Have a great adventure!

Hi! Like the poster stated, you will receive a booklet to give an idea of what to pay. One prior to leaving, and one at checkin. (At least in the past the did.) But, to help you for now, this is what the booklet states for Backstage Magic (from October 2009):

Per Guest/Per Adventure Guide/Per Day = $5 to $9 (US dollars)

EXAMPLE:
-For a 6-day adventure, the Adventure Guide gratuity per Guest, per Adventure Guide $30 - $54 (US dollars)

-A family of 4 for a 6-day adventure $120 - $216 (US dollars) per Adventure Guide
For two guides, this is a total of $240 - $432 (US dollars)

It does note that the Guides can be paid in US dollars placed in enevelopes provided and given to the Adventure Guides on the final evening of your adventure.

I too have given the Guides more than noted. They are OVER THE TOP!!! I hope this helps you plan a little more. Wherever you are going, have a magical time!

I think you are asking about the ABD/DCL. Here is what the website indicates:

Adventures by Disney has pre-paid all ship board gratuities and all shore excursion related gratuities. Ship board gratuities include your stateroom attendant and ship board waiters. Gratuities for your Adventures Guides, however, are not included. If you feel that your Adventure Guides have provided excellent service, we suggest the discretionary gratuity, per Guest/per Adventure guide/per day of $6-$9 USD. For example:
• On an 8-day adventure, the Adventure Guide gratuity per guest, per Adventure Guide: $48-$72 USD.
• For a family of 4 for an 8-day adventure: $192-$288 USD per Adventure Guide. For 2 Guides, this is a total of $384-$576 USD. Adventure Guides accept local currency, U.S. dollars, and travelers' checks.

Since all the ship-board tips are pre-paid of (unless you want to add more) the only tips are for the ABD guide.

Dave
PS-I booked my ABD/DCL for Aug 27th yesterday. :yay:

Dave,

Thanks for that clarification...I hadn't noticed that and it's great news! I was planning on having to tip all the shipboard people on top of the Adventure Guides. One more way to justify paying for the ABD!:cool1:

I'm booked, and so looking forward to it!
