Hi, I am wondering about the tip on dining plan.

It says gratuities are included in this plan but I want to make sure that I don't make an a$$ our of myself.

Table service? Character buffet dinner?

Could you please tell me? Thanks

Tips are included for all table service and character meals. 15% Your waiters will help you for the plan. It is a great deal (especially for the free dining offer).

The included tip is 18% on every meal, not 15%.

15% was the amount used last year.

I used the dp 2 yrs ago and never had to leave an additional tip. If I thougth the server was really great, I would leave a little extra on the table. If I remember right, the server also told us that the tip was included in the meal. You just tell them you are on the dp when you are seated.

Thank you! That was fast.
I wish I'd gotten the free dining plan.. We are goin in July.

So, If we order drinks, we just pay tip on that.

On the other hand, if we get horrible service, the server still get 18%!

Actually you won't even have to tip on the drinks. For some reason Disney picks up the tip on the entire bill, even if part of it was paid OOP.

Disclaimer - I'm not speaking from personal experience...just from what I've read repeatedly on this board.

We left extra when the wait staff was really good. Like at 50's Primetime, our waitress was excellent so we left her a tad more, same with WCC.

And Disney does not pay the tip if you pay for anything OOP. We ordered beer one night and got a seperate bill for it and the tip was not listed.

Some servers/restaurants add the tip to the bill, particularly if your party is 8 or more, and others leave it off. Just look at the check, it'll tell you if the tip (18%) has been added on. The tip isn't picked up by Disney, the guest pays for it.

I'm not sure if the decision is up to the restaurant or up to the server. If the service was excellent I'd use the tip line on the drink bill as an opportunity to increase the tip for the meal. Even if the service was just good I'd probably round up the tip on the drinks and the server would probably wind up with more than 18% on my drink order.

Carefully look at any bill for out of pocket meal expenses you probably won't want to stiff the server nor do you want to double tip. 36% is a very generous tip if a customer that doesn't realize an automatic gratuity has been added to the bill.

We've used the DP twice. The tip (18%) is shown on the bill so you know how much the server gets and you can tip more (for outstanding service) if you wish. That being said, I've noticed that some servers have discovered that the more expensieve your meal, the better their tip. Case in point-we dined at Kona Cafe twice on same trip-first server was good, second server was better-we ordered the filet again, and he asked if we wanted to add the scallops! Of course we did!, and his tip grew by 18% of the addition. Also our first time at PF our server didn't mention it but at the table next to us the diners were also on the DP and their server told them the smoothies are included in the plan-again, adding to his tip.

Also, if we split a meal (even on the DP) we do add accordingly to the tip.

Happy eating!

I was wondering about being able to split a meal on the dp. Some nights I might not want a full meal so I told df that we could split a meal and he told me we couldn't. Did you have any problem splitting a meal while on the dp?

Formernyer - wow. I went last year and it was 15%. I just signed up for dining for September on the new offer and didn't realize they went up to 18%. That is great for the servers - we always had good service. Concourse Steakhouse the server asked if we wanted to add shrimp skewers with our entree - was allowed on the plan and also increased their tip!
