Hello All
I apologize in advance if this question has already been covered. I know that this year the tip isn't included in the dining plan. Do we just leave the tip as we feel appropriate or does disney include it automatically on our check. We are a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids). Any help would be appreciated.

You leave what you feel is appropriate. Parties of 6 or more are automatically charged 18%.

I have to add that WDW will automatically put on their reciept a suggested tip price. As if to guilt you into leaving the appropriate percentage.

I don't think it's a guilt method, you have to think of all the different cultures that come to Disney for vacation, places like Europe and Japan have very different tipping policies.

I think the fact they do it is a nice thing, it also helps reduce the need to calculate the tip you want to leave in your head.

I think the suggested tip amounts also serve as a reminder that the tip is not included in the dining plan.

No, it's done to assist with calculations. Yes, starting at 18% is suggestive of more than some people would wish to tip - but those people are free to calculate the tip themselves.

It is also very intimidating - in April, many of the servers would stand and wait for it, some even looking over our shoulder as we wrote the amount. Say what you will, but when it was happening to us we were very uncomfortable. You do not leave after you write in the amount for the tip. The server then picks up the receipt and goes to recalculate, then you have to sign for the tip to be added to your CC#. Next trip, we have decided to use cash for tips for this very reason. We can leave the cash on the table as we are leaving.

Leaving cash tips is what I plan on doing. Let's see if I've got this right. We eat our meal and are finished, the server comes w/ our bill. I will put the word CASH in the tip line and leave my cash tip on the table with the bill.

Then can I leave. Once I'm done in a restaurant I WANT TO GO. I hate sitting around waiting to tip out the servers.

Would I be doing it right?

You can do it that way...they bring you the bill, you write cash on the tip line, then send your Key card back with them (or cc if you're not on DDP) Then they bring it back for you to sign (whether it's DDP or CC) Then you can take your copies & card, leave the bill folder & cash tip on the table & go.

We were there in May, used the DDP, and did not have any difficulties at all regarding the tipping procedure...no hovering waiters, no feelings of intimidation and good service everywhere we went. The only time the tip was even mentioned was a very, very apologetic waitress at Hollywood & Vine handing us a card from the H & V management very politely stating in 6 different languages that tipping is customary in the U.S. and is no longer included in the DDP. It was obvious she didn't really want to mention it at all.

We did write "cash" on the tip line, and actually had all our tips basically figured in advance and in a small envelope ahead of time - I went on-line to get prices & was within a dollar on every bill total. We usually just tucked that in the bill folder (ya might say I'm a bit of an obsessive organizer:lmao: )

Several of the servers commented on how nice the little envelopes were; all of them thanked us very politely.

You have given me an excellent idea! The nerve of them actually looking over your shoulder
