Need some advice: What is appropriate to tip for DVC rooms?

Since they are not cleaning the rooms everyday I am not sure. Also, sometimes the cleaning is major and other times it's not: towel and trash.

What do you do? Also, do you tip per person or per the room. We are staying in a studio. Would that make a difference?

Thanks

Mousekeeping is not on the list as an appropriate postion for tipping. There have been many threads on this topic. People differ on whether to tip or not as well as how much and when. I tip at the end of my trip. The amount depends on how long a stay, the size of the unit and how messy we were. I pick up the unit every day and try to keep it neat. I do empty the fridge before we leave and put the soiled towels in the tub but I don't strip the beds. If we required extras from mousekeeping we tip at that time.

Tipping is optional. We tip mousekeeping because we believe that their work is important to our vacation experience and that their total pay is less than tipped positions (like bell and valet). Again that is OUR opinion, not everyone's.
We tip by the room, $5 - $10 for trash and towel, $10 - $20 on checkout and/or full cleaning day. We always leave the room in excellent condition. This is not a lot of money but we hope that it lets the mousekeeping staff know that their efforts are noted and appreciated.
If you decide to tip, here is a link to envelopes we print before our trip and use for the tip.

I still tip a $1 a day - but I generally stay in studios.

I do tip less - in a regular room it would be a $1 per person per day - not just a $1 a day.

Disney does not encourage tipping of the maids (mousekeepers) - they definitely encourage tipping of the valet, bell services, restuarant cm.

I don't know if I have seem a reason for this policy.

I always tip on trash & towel day and check out.

Thanks for the replies. I am still not sure what to do. I guess I have about a week to figure it out.

I really hate the whole tipping thing. I just wished people were paid a decent wage and then businesses charged customers what they wanted. I hate having to figure out what to tip. However, the thought of some family struggling to make ends meet leaves me with a sick feeling in my stomach.

Thanks again

I tip the same as if I were in a regular resort. I tip $1. per person and leave it on our last day.

I also tip on Trash & Towel day.

We also tip. We were in a studio the last time we were there. We also always pick up after ourselves everyday and make the bed. If it's the full cleaning day we don't make the bed. On trash and towel day we left $5 and on the full cleaning day we left $10.
