My cruise is about 3 months away but I cleaned out a Paul Newman's spaghetti sauce jar and am using it for TIPS. I know I could go to the bank a few days before and change $20's for $1's and $5's but I thoutht this was a way to save some money for the cruise that I wouldn't miss too much. So whenever I have some extra cash in low denominations, I am tossing it in the jar. I hope to have all the tip money I'll need by the time September rolls around. Both for room service, extra cash to onboard staff who have gone out of their way, maybe Cabanas (planning dinners there) as well as at the airport parking place before and after. So far I have 'saved" $33 and it's just been a week and a half.

That sounds like a great idea! Sadly, I'm in Canada, so I'd still have to go to the bank before a cruise with my tip jar money...lol!

We held a garage sale a week before we left on our recent cruise... got rid of clutter and had a whole bunch of “free” cash (conveniently including lots of 1s and 5s) in our hands for tips and shopping in ports!

We do this at home too. It works well for us. It usually pays for a few cabs and our tips.

We pretty much only use credit cards and never cash so it wouldn't work for us, but we're okay just going to the bank once before the trip.

We just empty our pockets of loose change each night in a container. Then the week of our cruise I take it to the bank to cash it out. We had over $110 in a year's time on our last cruise.

The change jar in our house is known as the bar money. Sadly we're so reliant on debit cards I rarely have cash so the bar bill won't consist of more than a coke.
