I've been reading the boards for a long time but this is my first post...I have made an appt. for a massage for my DH at the Grand Floridian as a surprise for Father's Day. Is it customary to include a tip with the spa charge? If so, how much and can I put this on my credit card when we check in? Also, any suggestions on what else he should do to really get our money's worth would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My husband gets a massage at the Disney Institute- the tip is included (which he forgot one time so she got a whopper of a tip, LOL!). They also let him know to show up early to enjoy the sauna, etc. and that the resort will call and pay for a cab to and from the Institute. Oh, they also said I could come along to use the sauna, etc. but I opted for a nap!
Enjoy!

The GF is MUCH different than the Institute Spa.

The tip is NOT included. (It was at one point in time about three or more years ago, but that was stopped--because of a legal action I don't think I can say anything else about it right now) When he gets to the spa, he'll be asked for his credit card, room charge, or gift certificate upfront. They'll hold that for him at the desk while he has his treatment. When he finishes, he'll go back to the front desk at the spa, and they'll have him sign for the charge. At that time he can include a tip via his charge or cash. Not sure if you mean "check-in" at the Spa, or at the hotel, but you can when you "check-in" at the spa :) You'll pay at the spa, not the hotel. The GF Spa and most of the hair salons and other spa facilities around WDW are run by an outside company (Nikki Bryan Spa's).

It's customary to tip 15-20% for any hands-on treatments such as massages, facials, manicures/pedicures, etc., and 10-15% for treatments with less "hands on" by a therapist, such as a soothing bath or the surial chamber.

Only the person getting the treatment can use the facilities without additional charge at the GF Spa. There is a workout room, and the mens and ladies changing areas and lounges offer dry saunas and whilrpool spas. While bathing suits are not required, I've never seen a woman not wearing one while using these facilities, men might be a little different, I could ask DH if you want. Appropriate work-out gear is required for the training room.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. I've had a variety of treatments at the GF Spa--they know me by name when I walk through the door :o

Does anyone know exactly what the "selected spa treatmens" are in the dreammaker silver and gold packages?

That's good to know! I was planning to book a massage at the Institute Spa. I miss stuff like that sometimes  Can you use the sauna and other facilities after you get your massage?

Thank for the responses! I requested the Sports Massage. Is that a good treatment for a male?

The current appt. is $110 for 50 minutes. Does anyone have an opinion on whether I should try the Institute Spa or stick with the GF Spa? I'm beginning to think he might prefer to leave from the Hotel (ASMo) and return to the Hotel.

Can you tell I'm new at this... Thanks again

My husband has had Swedish, Sports, and Deep Tissue, and DEFINITELY prefers the sports massage, way above the others.

He's not one of these frou frou guys, and the sports massage is a little more "friendly" in that the idea is not so much to make you go to sleep but to work out the kinks...both are relaxing, but in different ways. He didn't really like the deep tissue...it was a little too "deep".
