Hi there....

Another poster reminded me of this and I thought I would share the info..

When we stayed at AKL concierge - the lounge staff told me to make sure Noel (my daughter) asked for her "take out cup" on the day of our departure.. I was not sure what they meant..

But anyway, when we were having breakfast prior to leaving for the airport I asked Marge, and she brought Noel a large strofoam cup with a lid and a ribbon tied around it...

Later at the airport she opened it and it was just stuffed full of gummi bears, and some chocolate chip cookes that had been quartered...and I think some trail mix, raisins etc...

It was really unexpected and she enjoyed it on the flight home... actually there was so much that it lasted for a week after we arrived home.

They are really sweet, considerate people at the concierge lounge, I know it is a fortune to stay there, you could never recoup your investment.. but little extra touches like this have way more value to me.

I am not sure if the other resorts offer this... but you could ask if you have kids..... it made Noel feel really special that they thought of her.

That is nice to know. We will be there in Nov and I'll remind the kids. You know we can never have to much junk food!! LOL
Also this is off topic, but what exactly is your screen name? I some times want to reply to you posts and cannot figure how to type your name.

Laura

LOL... my screen name is cool to some people and a pain in the butt to others... LOL

It is supposed to resemble a little kitty cat face.. (hopefully)lol

The whiskers are the upper case symbols above the period and comma on your keyboard... the ears are the upper case symbol above the number 6 on your keyboard and they eyes are just periods LOL

I never make anything easy for anyone but you can also call me Cass.

Cassie,

Another great idea from you. I love that. I will remember to ask for that before we love.

Concierge will be shopping for all the stuffed animals for me to leave on their pillows each night. Of course 2 of each, for each night or the fighting will be unbelievable.

Any other ideas for the kids.

I've also heard they encourage you to take drinks to the parks. Did you experience that as well??

Only 38 days to go to the Poly - 43 to AKL Concierge

Hi Lizzie...

You are going to have such fun! Won't be long now... are you concierge at the poly too?

About Drinks... AKL didn't have plastic bottles of water (out).. just glass unless they have plastic in the back room - but I didn't see it.

I actually didn't ask for water/drinks for the park mainly because I HATE carrying things - I would rather just buy a drink when I want one. But then again there were only 2 of us.. you have a few more to look after.

But - having said that - I did take drinks all the time to the pool with us. Cans of coke, sprite etc.. I never bought a drink once down there. The pool is extremely handy to the lounge.. it's basically right above it - one elevator ride up and you are there.

Sometimes they had cookies out and we grabbed one to have by the pool - it was very decadent - I don't think I have eaten so much in my life. By the way.. no straws allowed to protect the animals.

Out of the 9 nights there - we only went to parks 5 1/2days. The other 4 full days were were enjoying the hotel and the pool. We enjoyed the chicken/shrimp skewers, cheese crackers, fruit, veggies, dips, flatbreads & chicken nuggets every afternoon - in fact were so full we were too hungry for dinner out... one day I deliberately skipped the lounge so we would be hungry for Boma.. which was great.

Other things....

Make sure you take the kids to try cookie decorating at Boma (Daily at 1:30pm)

Noel dragged me around on the hottest day of the year to do the Hidden Mickey Safari... you can get the sheet from concierge or guest services in the lobby. It is fun - but maybe you boys are too young to keep interested in that?

A couple of times she did crafts with the CM's around the pool - she made a lion fridge magnet one afternoon.

Also there is the storytelling at 7:30pm.. arrive early for that and I really think this is a do it once only type of thing... one night is enough.

There is an arcade but we never went in once - Noel is not into video games like that.

Mini putt is real close by at winterland/summerland.. .your boys would have fun there I am sure...

Lizzie - thats all I can think of for now.

So glad you took my advice for the animal pillow gifts. They did the turndown around 7:30pm - I always made sure we were somewhere else at that time.

By the way.. alot of the beanies they left for noel made sounds when you squeezed them.. lion roared, elepahnt trumpets etc... with two animals per night - make sure you pack Tylenol =)

Cassie,

Thanks for sharing about the take-out cup! I'll have to ask for my girls, they would be thrilled with such a goodbye treat :).

Lizzie,

I'm confused on the stuffed animals. They will buy them for you and leave them in the room? How do I set this up? Do they charge them to your room after you check in? Do they choose the animals for you?

Thanks :)

Teresa

Hi Taylor...

This is the scoop.

I decided I wanted "pillow gifts" for my daughter when we were at AKL. Basically little surprises left out at turndown for her to come back to in the evenings.

I had the idea of safari animal beanie babies and I asked the concierge to pick some up for me - because I didn't have room in my luggage and my daughter would most likely spot them.

Concierge picked them up for me.. charged my visa.. it was about 85.00 for 9 of them.

They kept them in the concierge office and every night the houskeeper would leave one on my daughter's bed at turn down...

SHe loved getting them! This is how her bed looked by the end of the 9 nights

Noel's Bed

Hope this explains things better - I gave Lizzie the suggestion and she has had concierge arrange them also for her son's - there is no charge for putting them out at turndown.. but you do have to pay for them... - or supply them yourself.

Thanks cassie for answering Taylor. I was fast asleep by 10:30 when you posted.

Taylor, I did have to give the concierge staff my credit card number (although I think they already had it on file for the sunrise safari). I spoke to Sue who is a doll. She said she would be going shopping a few days before we arrived and would give them to housekeeping with instructions to put 2 (of the same ones) out on the pillows every night.

This staff couldn't be more accomodating. They are all truly wonderful and I am so looking forward to meeting each one of them.

Cassie - thanks again for the great ideas.

Liz

They have cold water bottles for the asking. They also had the Pooh juice boxes when we were there too.

Make sure to find out when you get there if you need to sign up in advance for the activities (cookie decorating), I didn't have to but another poster was turned away because they didn't sign up.

Thanks Laurie,
I'll make sure to get to the concierge desk and ask about signing them up.

Cassie and Lizzie,

Thank you both so much for explaining about the stuffed animals! We will be there for the last 3 nights of our trip and I think both my girls would love a surprise like that :).

Thanks for the idea, I'm going to contact AKL Concierge.

Teresa

Good for you and your girls Theresa. Hope you have a great time. We'll have to post and get together and compare trips.

Do all concierges have this?? We will be staying YC concierge in May and my boys would love any activities, special treats, etc... Are there age limits to participate in the activities??

We'll definitely have to share our resort reports!

I can't wait to read about your stay at AKL Lizzie! You'll be back right before we leave, and I'm sure your report on AKL will make me all the more impatient (as if I could be any more impatient at this point, lol!)

I know how you feel Theresa. I get crazed when I read everyone's trip reports. I can't believe I'm 37 days out. My counter started at some 200 days.

I've already started shopping. Bought new beach shoes for the boys, swim diapers for my 2 year old, sun block. Every little bit helps. You should see my calendar. I have a huge calendar page with just 10 days on it. Every day is marked with which hotel, which park, which parade, all ps. etc.

My husband is secretly planning on committing me when we get back. All because I said the tag fairy loves me.

Lizzie,

LOL about your DH. I think my husband feels the same way. He thinks I'm crazy with nonstop planning and talk of Disney!

I haven't started shopping yet, but I plan too soon. Thanks for the reminder about the swim diapers, I'll have to start looking for those!

Are you guys flying or driving down? We are driving from Illinois, and this is the only part of the trip I am not looking forward to.

I love your calendar idea! I've just have mine printed out on a sheet of paper.

Teresa

Theresa,

We're flying which I am not thrilled with. But we really wanted the extra time. We drove to Miami a few years ago and made a stop each way. It was 4 days travelling. No thanks.

My sister in law lives in Buffalo Grove.

I don't care for flying either :(. Driving does take so much time, and can be so hard with kids.

We drove last year too, and we left at 4:00 a.m. and arrived at 9:00 that night. Not too bad for 1000 miles! I'm hoping this year will be the same.

My SIL lives near Buffalo Grove :)!

We live in Southwest Illinois, down by St. Louis, which is about a 5 hour drive from Chicago.

You don't have to be staying in Concierge to do the activities. I don't know what CR has for kids activities, but BWI has things going on in Community Hall, and you can go into the Neverland Club during the day as well as other activities at the Polynesian.
