OK, I don't have princesses so this has been unknown to me up until the commercials for the new Tinkerbell movie on DVD. She speaks?

Call me old fashioned, but this just doesn't seem right. She is supposed to just "twinkle", not speak.

JMO. ;)

Yep, and she's also nice. From what I can tell, these movies are before she met Peter Pan, so I'm waiting for the movie when she turns into a mean pixie and stops talking. :thumbsup2

ITA...Tinkerbell doesn't talk. I wasn't thrilled about the Tinkerbell Meet & Greet at WDW either. I haven't been to see it and I won't be. Tinkerbell talks and she has on an awful wig. Total magic killer for me.

Half the appeal of tink is how she communicates so effectivly without speech! The other half is her sassy/mischevious/tantrum throwing persaonlity (that is appealing in someone pixie sized--human sized not so much:lmao:). I just cannot grasp what Disney was thinking when they made these changes:headache:

I'm glad to see Disney continuing to keep a current understanding of their audience, and adjusting their characters in response to what they know the audience, as a whole, would prefer. This is a way to honor the past without getting stuck in the past.

I won't have anything to do with talking Tink, either.

my daughter asked me this and I told her that only the fairies and the animals can hear her talk.. humans ears are not sensitive enough so they hear her the bells..seemed to make her happy ( although we havent seen the new movie so I dont know if anyone can hear her talk)

Tinker Bell has always been able to talk. It's just that this is the first time we've been able to understand her. Humans only hear bells when she speaks- you have to be fairy size to know what she is saying.

It would be strange to have a movie about the fairies in which all we heard were bells!

Tinker Bell is still Tinker Bell- if you watch the movies, you'll still see that sassy attitude and hot headed temper! (Although it's tamer than in the original story where she actually tries to do in Wendy!)

Yes, one of the greatest advantages of the digital age has been the fact that we humans can now understand pixies.

My daughter and I really enjoyed the Tinker Bell movie and are very excited about watching the sequal. I don't think the "new" Tinker Bell is that terribly different in essentials from the Tink in Peter Pan. She's got a hot temper and is willful, she's not geat with animals, her talking can't be heard by humans. One of the nicest features of the Tinker Bell movie is the faries of Pixie Hallow are of all different skin colors and races. That's been sadly lacking in Disney films until recently.

I think all the "how could Disney do this" hand wringing kind of hilarious. They could do this becuase its an franchise that appeals to girls that have outgrown princesses. All the girls carrying around Tink autograph books and backpacks are the 7-10 year old crowd, many of whom wouldn't be caught dead with Princess stuff. Disney has a responsibility to its shareholders to cultivate new franchises and grow its brand. They are a business.

I think this really opens up a whole new horizon for Disney. Disney's Tinkerbell has always been a pixie, and pixies are a substantially untapped source of mythos, very clearly potentially attractive to the audience. There is nothing in pixie folklore that suggests that pixies should be mute.
